The Main Kitchen

This is the 4th time going here but only bought food 2 times. The first 2 times, they were out of nearly all the food items on the menu. Went today was there a total of 40 minutes, waiting to place an order, then placing the actual order, and then waiting on the order. I will say this: the owner is absolutely wonderful and pleasant. Today, I ordered the 4pc wing (1st picture) and fries for $7.99. I was extremely dissatisfied in the false advertisement . IT IS NOT 4 wings it is actual 2 wings total. They cut the drum part off in an attempt to call it 4 wings. It 's most definitely not worth almost 8 dollars. I understand prices have went up for wings but to deceive your customer and say it 's 4 is not right. Just say it 's 2 pieces and give the customer an option if they want to purchase. They chicken is cooked fresh and seasoned but the wings are most definitely not worth the cost. The other time I went, I purchased the legs and breast plate because they were out of wings. As you can see in 2nd picture we 'll worth the cost as you get plenty of chicken 4 pieces. I didn 't like the cabbage or Mac, they both had sugar in it, which tasted horrible. If I visit the establishment again I will stick to only ordering the 5pc drum and breast with fries for 4.99, nothing else. The chicken is cooked fresh to order, so I know that 's why it takes so long. But I 'm starting to think the owner is the only one that works there because I 've never seen no one else in there. Although the chicken is darn good, I 'm only giving 2 stars. Reason for 2 stars is strictly because of the false advertisement of the amount of wings told to me and on menu board of 4 but actual only 2. That really didn 't sit right with me at all; deceiving customers is not good for business. Advertise it as drums and flats because those are not 4 whole wings.

As a fried chicken connoisseur and experienced fryer, I know what fried chicken looks like when cooked in OLD grease. This is it. Was not pleased at all. The only good thing was the price. Would actually be good if the grease were changed. The chicken was dark and not to mention fries cooked in same grease.

Coming from a family with restaurant experience, I know that consistency is key, particularly when customers are paying top dollar for a dish. If the price is so high, it would make sense to weigh the oxtails to ensure fairness for the customer. I'm seriously considering not returning, which saddens me, as I don't want to spend so much for what I received today. Additionally, the cornbread was burnt. On a positive note, I live just down the street and tried this place for the first time yesterday. I can't stop thinking about those delicious oxtails and my double side of mac and cheese. I've been missing out all this time! The oxtail plate is priced at $19.99, and it's worth every penny. Have you seen the price of uncooked oxtails at the store? They are pricey and require careful cooking at home to avoid ruining them. Why take that risk when you can dine here? I noticed someone mentioned the sweetness added to the mac and cheese, and while it's true, I understand that this is a common practice in Southern cuisine, especially with pasta. I wasn't shocked, and it doesn't mean it's not delicious—it just has a different twist. As a Mexican, I might not be the best judge of whether this tastes like home-cooked meals, but I can assure you it's finger-licking good! I've tried a different soul food restaurant near West Oaks Mall (not far from The Main Kitchen), and I wouldn't recommend it. I really love this place! They serve generous portions, and the prices are reasonable compared to other soul food and urban restaurants in the area. I appreciate the convenience of having a drive-thru as well. I definitely recommend checking out Main Kitchen. I would give them five stars, but I wasn’t a fan of the sweet flavor in the greens; the cabbage tasted like it had sugar added. I also didn’t enjoy the dirty rice. Despite that, I would still recommend this restaurant to friends and family. #SupportBlackBusinesses!

Wow! I have to share my experience. I haven't enjoyed food this amazing since my great-great-grandmother used to cook for us. I ordered oxtails, which were served with delicious rice and gravy. The greens and cabbage were the best I've ever tasted. And to top it off, they offered hot water bread. I can't wait to go back! Oh my goodness, I've definitely found a hidden gem!
