My wife and several other ladies we were with asked for another round of drinks and the female bartender refused to serve them. As an observer I found her decision to be completely unfounded. I personally thought she was discriminating against them for some reason. We left and will never return.
I really did enjoy the chicken fried steak though I did have two thoughts.1. Why use an expensive akaushi beef when you are going to deep fry it and cover it with a pork sausage gravy flavor profile? Just use and tenderize a cheaper cut of beef, trimmed of fat and gristle. 2. If you’re gonna stick with akaushi, do a more thorough job of trimming the fat and gristle?I also got the gumbo and it was good enough, though there was a flavor “feel” of canned soup. I know they didn’t use canned soup but that is the flavor I got. It isn’t a spectacular gumbo like, say, Viola and Agnes on NASA Road 1, but it was good enough, though as a gumbo aficionado, I wouldn’t order it again nor recommend it to anyone who is really passionate about gumbo. The poboy that my dining partner had was good. Big shrimp. Good batter. Acceptable bread. The chocolate cake was really enjoyed. I remarked that I would have been proud to claim this if I had made it.It is a cool looking venue. Aesthetically so pleasing.
So, we decided to go try Millie’s in the Heights for Restaurant Week, and Boy, were we pleasantly surprised!!! It was A MAZING!!!!!First off, we were immediately greeted at the door. We sat anywhere we wanted and were then brought menus and took drink orders. Jesus was on the spot filling water glasses and even brought the lemons.Makayla, our waitress, was close behind offering the DRINK MENU. Side note: SHE ROCKED THE WHOLE NIGHT!Santos poured our wine and made polite conversation with us while we glanced over the menu.Without going into all the details, the menu was SPECTACULAR, food delivered timely, service exceptional, and everything EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS!Do they do anything wrong? We are recurring customers and have yet to have a complaint! Kuddos to those serving us tonight!
Millie's is the best restaurant of its kind in Oak Forest proper. Have eaten here countless times during lunch or dinner. Food and drink are the best under the new ownership. Chef Eric is the best and we have even had him cater events at our home. Definitely worth a try!
VALET ONLY!!!!!! Ugh! This is is so frustrating as a customer! The parking is right in front of the restaurant and we have to have a stranger get in our car for no reason when we could just park it ourself. We went for Houston Restaurant Weeks. The garlic parm oysters were probably the best I’ve ever had- Amazing. Seafood chowder was okay- a little fishy and not much seafood in it. Scallops and shrimp w/ grits- very good! Scallops weren’t fishy at all. Overall good food but valet only parking is a huge deterrent for us.
