We waited thirty minutes for our food in a nearly empty restaurant, and one of our orders, the seafood ploughman's, was uncooked. It came with a cheap partially baked baguette. The burger we ordered was tiny, possibly only 2 ounces. It seems like the quality has declined, as they used to have meat supplied by Robinsons butchers. I would not recommend this place or return. It was disappointing. Perhaps they should consider serving a smaller menu with higher quality dishes if they are struggling with costs.
Unwelcoming. Food was so dire, all of us left at least half the meal. I left 3/4. Beer was cloudy, and didn’t finish it. Such a shame as it used to be a great place to visit.
We have been using the White Lion for Sunday lunches for a number of years now and were due to eat there this Friday which was a change from our normal day. Have now discovered that the people running the pub are retiring. We shall miss the excellent service, hearty meals, ales and drinks in general. Such a shame the people are retiring but we wish them all the very best for the future and trust the new owners will continue the tradition. Kind regards Philip Hill and the ex-Weymouth crew
My partner and I were driving back from Winchester today and decided to stop off for a quick lunch. From start to finish it was a very pleasant experience. The landlady was friendly, helpful and charming. The food, although it was just a light lunch, was tasty, well presented and very good value. Plus my beer was excellent. They are not trying to pretend they are a 3 star Michelin gastro pub but more like pubs used to be prior to CV19. We need more places like this. We can definitely recommend The White Lion if you are in the area. If you aren't then make a detour.
We had heard that the pub had reopened, so we decided to visit for lunch. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was lovely. The pub was very dog-friendly, and Bertie enjoyed the endless supply of dog biscuits. The food was typical pub fare. I particularly enjoyed the seafood ploughman's, and my partner thought the fish and chips were some of the best he's had. We definitely plan on returning.
