We just got settled in our temporary home and went to the village to find a late lunch. La Piazetta looked inviting. The menu confirmed our choice and the presence of locals told us we picked right. Service was typical laid back Italian country side. Food was delicious across all our selection. This was paired with a local vintage. All for sixty euros. Can't beat that. We will be back.
When we arrived in Teolo to take up residence for 12 days, we were tired, jet lagged and hungry. It was after 1:00 and when we connected with our host, Maurizio, we decided that we would eat first and check in after. It was a beautiful, sunny late October day and as there was a table in the shade we decided to sit outside. Inside is a lovely dining room and next to that a coffee bar. More about that in a moment. Jacopo server? manager? owner? is the love of my life now, particularly since he backed my car out of its trap in the piazza the next day. But I digress. The idea of a menu was too intimidating, but Jacopo made a couple of suggestions, one of which was pasta con funghi as mushrooms, wild mushrooms, were in season. Perfetto, I responded. I then asked for a couple of glasses of red wine. Young or more mature, Jacopo asked. Went for one of each. What came out were glasses of truly excellent red from the Colli Euganei, our new neighborhood. And yes, the younger wine was a bit saucy, the older, a little sterner, more rounded. The pasta? Oh, my, the fresh fettucine and the 3 kinds of funghi sauteed to perfection in heaps of butter. It could not have been better. Since then we have trotted down in the morning to buy cornetti con crema, and one evening, short on cooking supplies, I was able to buy a few slices of speck, a piece of parmigiano reggiano and a bottle of wine that was definitely a couple steps above what I was getting in the grocery store. Heavens, I do love living in a village! Teolo is in the Euganean Hills, a little west of Padua. On weekends, those steep hill roads and switchbacks are jammed with bicyclists. Every town has something to offer. So come for an explore and drop by for lunch or supper at La Piazzetta!
