The Great Gurkha - Tendring

Had a takeaway this evening and it was awful. We have had food from this restaurant before and it was always nice so decided to have a treat for my 73rd birthday. I had a king prawn butterfly and it was totally tasteless and stale, followed by lamb passanda and god knows what happened there , lamb no flavour and not as tender as it used to be and the passanda sauce horrid. Not to mention the saag paneer which looked like a green mess. I’ve never had an Indian meal this bad before. I am so disappointed as the food from here was always great until now. Hubby had Raj special Biryani and the veg curry that came with it was a pot of oil and no taste to the main Biryani

We are regular customers and order from here as least once a month and as always the food was fabulous , fresh and on time. Although we do get them free we did think ONE poppadom between the usual 5 of us was a tad mean...we had awful job breaking it up to share amongst 5 people ;

The waiters weren't very attentive we had to ask to order our food and didn't get our hot drinks after our buffet meal. The food however was plentiful and very flavourful.

I have had a few takeaways from this restaurant and generally they weren 't bad. But I had one yesterday and everything was awful. The only thing that was ok was the korma sauce. The chicken in all dishes was rubbery and tasteless. The garlic rice didn 't taste of anything. The supposed 'award ' winning onion bhaji 's were terrible, again no flavour at all, unidentifiable as onion inside. The chicken rogan sauce was watery, and bland. I ended up throwing most of it away. I don 't know if it was a different chef, but it was awful. I won 't be ordering from them again!

During the Covid crisis, we have ordered takeout from this restaurant online four times through their website, and each time has been excellent. I frequently enjoy Indian-style food, and this establishment is among the best I've had. I am excited to dine in after the 17th of May. We reside in Holland-on-Sea, and the food always arrives hot and fresh. The restaurant has had new owners since December and has shown significant improvement.
