Tesco Cafe - Taunton Deane

Came here as I was in Taunton for a long weekend. Ordered full English and tea. Ordering seemed a bit chaotic, but I got what I ordered and it was pleasant. Not the best I have had, but certainly not the worst and I would revisit if in Taunton again.

What has happened to this once charming cafe? I used to frequent this cafe 3 or 4 times a week and always had a pleasant experience with the lively and friendly staff. However, after visiting today for the first time in 3 years, I was shocked to see how terrible it has become. There was only one woman trying to serve all the customers and clear tables, while a couple of women who I assume were management were speaking to her in a disrespectful manner. Despite looking upset, the lady remained professional and continued working. Witnessing this behavior was very upsetting to me, and I will be contacting head office about it. I have no plans to return to this cafe again, as it has been completely ruined.

The food hygiene standards at this restaurant are terrible. When you place an order, you are given a number to place on your table to indicate your order. However, this system did not seem to work properly as the server placed two breakfasts on the wrong table and then became frustrated when the customers pointed out the mistake. Our order was also incorrect, with my husband receiving a smaller breakfast with toast instead of the larger one he ordered with fried bread. My egg was also undercooked despite requesting it well done. When we mentioned the mistakes, we were met with attitude and rudeness from the staff. After waiting over 40 minutes for our meal, we decided to ask for a refund and were once again met with disrespectful behavior. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this cafe.

There were no paninis available so three or more items were unavailable on the menu. Ordered the food went to collect cutlery etc. Took 15 dirty forks and several knives back to the cashier saying that there was clearly a problem with the dishwasher. Whole atmosphere of the cafe was rather scruffy, the tray rack was completely full of used plates cups etc, not cleared. Needs a shake-up.

If I could give a zero rating I would. Waited for five minutes in a queue of one (me) whilst the two staff [one of which was no more than two feet away] ignored me. When I pointed out that I 'd not been acknowledged, I was grunted toward a sign, which I 'm guessing says 'don 't come here because we can 't handle queues of one or more '. Went to customer services who asked If i 'd like to complain to the restaurant manager who was in. Restaurant manager if you 're there I 'd recommend you 're present with your killer team as it needs managing.
