My partner and I were staying in Tanunda for a few days, and thought we'd try the beautifully renovated Hotel for an evening meal.Returning from Adelaide we arrived just prior to 6pm and the dining areas were empty. Staff were friendly and reasonably attentive. We ordered an entree of garlic bread and chilli prawns, both were disappointing in their presentation, big pieces of bread roll barely golden and the chilli prawns, whilst a generous serve, the sauce was runny and we felt probably out of a bottle. For mains we ordered a steak which was ok, not fabulous and I ordered Moroccan lamb which again were generous serves. The lamb was overlooked and tough, supposedly served with a hollandaise sauce which was zig zagged over the meat and looked and tasted like aioli mayonnaise. The accompanying salad was also swimming in dressing.Really disappointing, food was around $80 which we wouldn't have minded if the quality and presentation had been to a reasonable standard.
Serve size was good but the food itself was ho-hum. Chilli Prawns entree appeared to be a cup of steamed rice with some prawns, and a ladle of chilli sauce from a bottle. 250gm rump with pepper sauce was floating on a bed of chips, and just a dribble of sauce. Tanunda is such a pretty place, I'd expected a little hospitality style rather than city corner 'ow ya goin' maite '.
After being turned away rudely from another pub we ventured to the next town over and went to the Tanunda Hotel.
Came here with the kids. Nice to sit outside during the summer months. The seafood was tasty and everyone was happy with their meals.
