The asparagus salad was fantastic. The burnt broccoli salad such a surprise. The potato hash browns were fantastic. Such a lovely place with friendly staff and a great wine list.
The food here is remarkable. Steak, fish, kangaroo, desserts... they all have some quirky ingredients about them. They have wines and cocktails... all the perks. I enjoyed my kangaroo, a little bit too chargrilled on the outside but still rare and not too chewy. The quandong and onion purée made the dish though. The staff are somewhat friendly but I found them a little abrupt, so it might just be all put on for “show” since this is meant to be one of the fine dining places in Tanunda... I would return anyway for the food. Price wise on the expensive side.
The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. We sat on the veranda, which was lovely. We had seafood paella, which was the best I have ever had. The coffee was also excellent.
Went here for lunch today. I thought the food was nice, nothing to get overly excited about. The service was ok... a little inattentive at times.
3.5<br/ We chose 1918 as the restaurant to have our last meal of 2018. They had a special menu on with four courses and a glass of bubbles for $95 pp. this lovely 100 year old cottage with pleasant gardens took on the 1920’s with staff dressing for the period. <br/ <br/ The menu looked good with a range of canapés, selection of entrees, mains and desserts. Canapes were somewhat underwhelming with pork belly being quite dry and ceviche being quite bland. Moving into entrees though and most enjoyed their choice. I had the pressed lamb which came on a small wild rice salad. <br/ <br/ I couldn’t say no to the 300g Sirloin which came with a garlic mash. They didn’t offer any other choice other than having this cooked medium rare which I thought quite odd even though this is normally how I have my steak anyway. I liked the dish but would have liked the option to have greens for the table as this dish seemed to be lacking a green element when presented. My steak had a sizeable chunk of fat on the side which didn’t present well either. Taste wise and enjoyable dish although the capsicum sauce was just a thin smear on the plate and did little for flavour. The duck breast was well rendered but not crispy and the salmon steak was the one dish that we wouldn’t have changed a thing on.<br/ <br/ Desserts were good with mist opting for lemon tart.<br/ <br/ Staff seemed stressed tonight. Our wonderfully dressed waiting staff member seemed to not be coping with the number of people dining and in particular the questions on food being asked of her by the table beside us. I guess it was a non standard menu but staff should still be able to explain the content.<br/ <br/ Overall less than perfect but we still had a good night in a wonderful location. Would be interesting to compare to the regular menu as this New Year’s Eve limited menu didn’t give us the wows we were hoping for.
