We stopped in to this pub on the way back from the coast onto London for an evening meal but although the pub is wonderful, there are a few flaws I’m afraid. We all ate in the restaurant but it was very cold
Booked a birthday Sunday lunch. First visit. Easy to find. Car park quite small so I had to park on the road up on the muddy bank, but it was safe. Warm welcome. Lovely warm inside and could smell the fire which was inviting. We was shown to our table which was extremely snug and my husband had difficulty getting his chair out to sit down. It was full of patrons (2pm) and there was one spare table available and the staff asked if we wanted it as I think she could see that we were a little uncomfortable. We moved to the last table available which was more roomy. We all opted for the Sunday roast. Could have done with 2 Yorkshire puddings as they were quite small (size of aunt Bessie) and one wasn’t quite enough. The meal was very lovely and we all cleared out plates. Proper home cooked food. Good size portions. We had puddings which again were delicious and generous. The staff are very friendly: the pub had a really lovely atmosphere. The floor is cobbly with steps inside so need to be careful. Would definitely return and perhaps sit in the garden which I understand has been newly refurbished.
This pub had no old world charm, just looked scruffy. Staff pleasant but poorly untidily dressed. Pub freezing cold with no fire lit, even on a very chilly day. Food very average, with tepid hot drinks, in cold cups. Poor experience, all round.
Booked lunch for 4 oldies on a quiet Monday. So different from our last crowded Sunday-fun all-age all-nations visit but still ticked all the boxes for a really nice Pub. Good choice of interesting beers, excellent choice of good food, prepared with remarkable attention to detail. First pub I 've been to in a long time that had proper linen napery and napkins! Or you can use the wood booths if you don 't fancy the full 'restaurant ' experience. Mariella was an engaging host/barperson/server and nothing was too much trouble. The whole place is 'haunted history ', but will someone please rescue the rusting white VW permanently displayed in the little carpark, before it joins the haunting?
First visit to this place. The food was very nice although quite pricy but we had to wait 45 minutes from ordering until we got our food.
