I've tried most of them but they all pretty much approach this ancient tasty cuisine the same way. Three quarters of the menu consists of Mar Far Chicken 30 ways and the rest pretty much painfully pedestrian. Is Mar Far chicken even a Chinese dish or an excuse to substitute huge bags of frozen McNuggets for actual knife work? I'm not sure if patrons or chefs are to blame for the numbing down of what should be a dynamic and tastebud exploding experience. Some places are better than others, I'd put This place in the center. Generally quiet except for the country and western karaoke blasting from the bar next door, most patrons seem to be going thru the motions and not being dazzled by the heaping plates in front of them. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad just not inspired. If you were blindfolded and lead around to most of the Chinese restaurants in the Rogue Vally I doubt you could tell the difference in taste or menu selection. I mean where is the Mu shu Pork?? How bout some Dim Sum or a real Crispy Duck and on and on. I mean maybe most of these places in the valley are owned by the same guy who's inflicted with a keen lack of creativity or not Chinese . As with any establishment I haunt over the span of 15 years I want to see them do well. The counter and wait staff is attentive and tend to be more interesting than the menu. If you are going to succeed you need to be different and authentic. Stand out so to speak. On a Saturday night the place needs to be filled with hipsters sipping cocktails I can't pronounce and being blown away by the inventiveness of the food. Instead it feels like a roadside diner in backwater Missouri on Christmas Eve. All that's missing are flickering yellowed Florissant lights. No one seems overjoyed to be there except the over intoxicated Tammy Wynette wanna be's that trip and fall through the swinging door that separates the saloon from the diner. They seen overjoyed that they landed on carpet and not the pavement outside and missing their purse. Step it up guys, you have potential. Carpe Diem
New in town and ordered take-out from here; pleasantly surprised because the food was great and prices not bad either. We ordered the won- ton soup which was full of veggies, BBQ pork, shrimp, chicken, and a generous amount of won ton dumplings; very tasty. Their vegetables in the stir fry dishes we got tasted very fresh and were cooked perfectly al dente. Will definitely go back here again!
It 's typical Americanized chinese food; pretty bland, but at least it 's not salty. Came here with a couple of hungry teenagers. They got full but nobody was excited about leftovers. Looks like a husband/wife team running the entire restaurant. The woman was working hard to take phone orders and service the customers dining in. At one point she stood next to our table *literally* and took 2 consecutive phone orders, then hung up the phone and took ours without taking a breath. No muss, no fuss. Note: mar far chicken is thickly breaded, deep fried chicken balls without the canned red sauce. I should 've read the reviews before I tried it *sadness* I wouldn 't eat here with other grown-ups, but good for a once in a while to-go order after a long work week OR if my grandparents wanted to go out for dinner.
I am shocked that this restaurant passed its health inspection. Every dish I ordered tasted old, and the chicken even had blue spots on it. It was just poorly prepared, Americanized Chinese food that should have been discarded rather than served. Additionally, the elderly Chinese woman who runs the place demonstrated an extreme level of racism; I overheard her muttering about "stupid white people" on two separate occasions after interacting with my friends and me.
Terrible dining experience! The food was loaded with MSG, and the overall place felt very neglected. It's permanently closed now, and honestly, I’m not surprised. I got sick from their food twice and haven’t returned since. It was definitely overdue for a shutdown.
