We booked this restaurant as a farewell special meal at the end of our 16 days traveling around Ontario and Quebec with another couple as we prepared to head back to the UK and USA respectively. When we got there the restaurant was practically empty- which didn’t change- but we were given a very nice welcome and excellent service. The menu is interesting and food and drink quality and presentation are also interesting and good and tasty but it comes with a full price by Canada standards. I’m not sure how they run this restaurant with so few customers and with such a menu to be honest. Soon after we ordered the lights went out and then.came on as the emergency generator kicked in. Fortunately for us the room was adequately cool so the air con being off wasn’t too bad and our kitchen was able to cook our meals which were lovely and hot. Before the starters we were brought amuse bouche. My wife and I couldn’t eat what was presented and within a minute these were replaced with lovely gazpacho which met our dietary requirements. The rest of Tadoussac was in blackout so we were really lucky to have booked Le William and to be able to enjoy an uninterrupted properly cooked and tasty meal. I hope they are busy enough generally and if only the prices were a bit lower. Complementary mineral water was a nice touch though.
It is one thing to charge 35$ for an appetizer and 48$ for a main course if you can say wow when the fork gets to your mouth, however, when you get something good but nothing out of the ordinary, you can only be disappointed. the crabcake didn't taste much, to serve it with a thing slice of chorizo is a good idea, but it doesn't save the plate. the lobster was small, which can happen, but again, it was served not very warm and you barely could discover the different flavors so well depicted in the menu. on the good side, the view is amazing and so is the service. everyone is professional and so kind. the wine list is well put. in summary, good food, not sure it is worth the price charged.
We selected the Menu Dégustation as part of a forfait giving us the option to chose any thing from the a la carte menu if we wish, I recommend foie de canard au torchon. The menu was excellent with a good selection, an exceptional service as we were the only couple in the restaurant, being the second friday after the season opening. The chef came to our table to get our comments.
Avoid all the high volume restaurants. This is the place to just relax and eat well, with service staff that are just great- knowledgeable, extremely attentive with a personalized touch. This is a CAA 4 diamond restaurant, so high end pricing. But when you compare to those high volume bistros where it will cost you just as much, The William restaurant is well worth it.
