Sadly we only came second, but that was the only down side! Great snacks and fun quiz with lovely people in a great fun venue
I have visited this lovely café numerous times, often popping in with friends during our bike rides for a pleasant coffee break or a tasty breakfast. This time, we decided to have lunch and were greeted by a note at the register explaining their current understaffing situation and the possibility of a wait, but it did not affect our experience. Despite the lack of vegan cheese, I was intrigued by the roasted vegetable ciabatta. My sister enjoyed a tuna sandwich, while my dad chose the toasted cheese and onion sandwich – all of which were delicious and quickly eaten. The coffee received mixed reviews; I personally enjoyed it, but my dad, who prefers his coffee with milk on the side, thought it was a bit weak. The young man serving us was lovely, displaying respect and kindness. He subtly encouraged us to have more coffee and cake with a friendly attitude, a tempting offer we might have accepted if we had more time. Overall, this charming café in a picturesque village has my support for its unique appeal, avoiding the big chains like Costa and Starbucks. A nice touch was the availability of games on the tables, although I did not take part this time, it is something I may explore on my next visit.
I was on a cycle ride from Whitstable to Rochester which took me via Iwade where decided to stop for lunch at the Mews Brewhouse. (Ideal for cyclists as bike rack is located right outside). The lunchtime menu included either Eggs Benedict or the Avocado Smash so I opted for the latter. It was delicious and surprisingly filling as well as reasonably priced. The young guy serving at the counter and waiting on tables was really polite and welcoming he almost persuaded me to have a tempting slice of coffee and walnut cake but I had to resist because of needing to ride on afterwards! During a quieter moment, the chef and proprietress came out of the kitchen and chatted to customers and was likewise really friendly and helpful. There was a nice relaxed family atmosphere and a couple of young children enjoyed eating with mums and grandparents. All very clean and tidy, wouldn't hesitate to come here again!
