Mama's Buoi is a restaurant that takes inspiration from traditional home-cooked meals of past generations, like many other ethnic restaurants. The menu is centered around this concept, with dishes infused with nostalgia and flavors reminiscent of family dinners. The name "Buoi" refers to a citrus fruit commonly found in Vietnam, often grown in people's own homes and enjoyed during meals with loved ones. To start your meal, we recommend trying the dumplings or spring rolls. The prawn dumplings ($16 for 4 pieces) are packed with large chunks of prawns that are visible through the translucent wrap. The dipping sauce, a thick and sweet soy sauce, is a delightful departure from the typical sauces found at yum cha restaurants. We devoured all four pieces in no time, as they were simply delicious.
The Vietnamese restaurant is a chaotic but lively space, with open tables where groups easily mingle with each other. There are also semi-private booths with fresh herb accents and panoramic views of the kitchen in action.
This restaurant has the perfect atmosphere for unwinding after work. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making you instantly feel at home. But it's not just the service that sets this place apart. The food has improved significantly since they brought in a new chef. The stir fry now has that authentic wok flavor, and the pho is a real standout dish. It's definitely worth the visit and the price.
This is more or a high end Vietnamese fusion place. We stumbled by this restaurant in Surry Hills since it has a very eye catching neon sign at the front<br/ <br/ Our main complaint is that some tables have a stool (pictured) which is very uncomfortable to sit on after some time. So this is your warning. Not all tables have it, just the ones along the wall. We didn't need a booking for two on a Saturday night but there were some groups who had a booking. The customer service was fantastic.<br/ <br/ We ordered the<br/ duck pancake: it was very tasty, basically like Peking duck with a twist since it had some pineapple in it too.<br/ caremelised pork belly which felt like it was a homecooked meal, the juice was good to drizzle on rice.<br/ sizzling pork which was a house special: in my opinion it wasn't anything special but it wasn't bad.<br/ <br/ There are so many other things I want to try on the menu so I will come back sometime!
