This place has really changed over the years. I had high expectations going in last night, knowing full well what Cossie's was capable of serving. We were a group of 7, and amongst us there were 3 who had visited Cossie's in it's hey day. We all agreed, it's now lost it's touch The food was bland, the olives that were in the anti pasti were absolutely horrendous (tasted like a off water) and the owner was slightly TOO transparent about her husband needing to go home to look after the kids, thus forcing us to order and end our night quickly. We wish we had of been warned prior to reserving a booking of 7 that there were time constraints. Especially since it was for a special occasion that we had chosen Cossie's to dine at. Overall I'm disappointed with the service and food, and hope that it can reach a decent restaurant level status again.
Don't tell your friends ; but this place is a bit of a local gem. We visit two or threetimes a year when house sitting nearby for a friend. The food, wine and hospitality is always reliably good. They have an honest, comprehensive and unpretentious menu with the classic standards. It's warm, friendly and cosy in winter, a complete contrast to the online fashionable rip off Via Napoli Italian restaurant next door which, in our experience, is one to avoided at all cost. The hosts are a talented, discreet, hard working and friendly couple from Shanghai. Prices are eminently reasonable.
We had lunch at Cossies just before Christmas and while the menu is basic is extremely well done, affordable and with attentive staff. We had an elderly relative who was treated with care and respect and loved the meal. Highly recommend.
I used to eat here the time but have not been back in a long time so had decided to have brunch here the other week. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. I ordered the big breakfast (toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown, etc) plus a pot of tea. Upon receiving the breakfast the first thing that I saw was what they laughingly called toast. You can see what I mean in the image. Basically they placed the bread in a toaster for, I would say 30 seconds to heat the bread and that was it. I complained and asked for more toast. When it arrived it was in the same condition as the first batch so just said forget it and take it back. They eventually brought me proper toast that had been lightly browned. I would seriously give this place a miss ... it has gone down hill
