This restaurant in the Trump International is fantastic. The steak was cooked to perfection and I enjoyed a delicious lava cake for dessert.
Oh no! I have to say, I was really disappointed with my experience at this Japanese restaurant. My wife and I were excited to dine here, but we were let down by the service. We eagerly ordered cocktails, but one was so strong that we couldn't even taste the lychee. The sushi rolls we ordered were not up to par - the soft shell crab and rainbow roll had hard pieces in them, and the wagyu was burned and lacked sweetness in the fried rice that came with it. The fact that a 20% service fee is automatically included in the bill also didn't sit well with me, especially since the service didn't seem to show any effort to improve our experience. It's disappointing to have to write a negative review about a cuisine I love, especially when dining at what I thought was a high-class restaurant in a Trump hotel.
I recently visited this neighborhood in search of a sushi takeout option that I could visit weekly. I decided to give Saka Mori at Trump a try, as the menu looked appealing. I had never had a bad experience at a Trump restaurant in Chicago or DC before, but unfortunately, this was the worst one yet. They did not have amaebi or the protein cocktails I ordered. The scallops and uni were not fresh. The omakase nigiri was disappointing as well. The selection of sashimi offered did not live up to the expectations set by the photos, and the uni was subpar. I couldn't even finish half of the set. It was worse than sushi I've had at a subway station in Hong Kong or at a 7-Eleven in Tokyo. I had hoped for a decent sushi experience at least, but was left utterly disappointed. I had to go to Tako Sushi to cleanse my palate. Furthermore, the A5 wagyu I ordered was not up to par. It was far from the melt-in-your-mouth experience I was expecting. I also had to ask for water at the end of the meal, which was never brought to me. Overall, I left feeling very disappointed.
I started with the fresh and indulgent tuna sashimi, followed by Japanese wagyu for my main course. Both dishes were excellent. Raw food never disappoints, right? The service was exceptional, and our server was very friendly. Unfortunately, my friend ordered the saka mori maki and found it disappointing - she said it tasted like low-quality, mushy sushi.
