Since this course was at a retirement community. I was expecting an easy, flat, and bland layout. I was definitely wrong! Oakwood Country Club was a very enjoyable course. The layout was great, had some challenging holes, with some nice scenery. The course was in immaculate condition, and service was on point. This is a course I am looking forward to coming back.
Beautiful courses with multiple lakes attracting blue and white herons. The club house has a decent restaurant and clean restrooms. The pools are warm and the hot tub opens at 6. The manned gates are nice for residents; sense of safety. Oakwood also has a three mile walking path. Beautiful scenery but not great for fast walking or running. Surface is concrete. Oakwood would be 6* if they built bike lanes.
Arrived about 7:30 and there seemed to be several groups teeing off. Checking in was a bit slow. Three people behind the counter and only one person was taking our group of 60. But once checked in, I headed to the golf cart and noticed that the driving range and putting greens were completely crowded. What the heck, warming up is overrated. The course was in great shape, Lakes was really a challenge and the Palms greens were pretty slick.
This golf course was horrible. They call it a country club but should change the name to oak wood retirement facility. Way overpriced for the course conditions and the clubs that my father rented from them looked like they were used in the medieval times.
This course is a hidden gem. Always in great shape, quiet, and afternoon golf is usually wide open affordable.
