I have come to be a regular here, and it really hits the spot when I'm craving Taiwanese food. I love their fish steak rice, the popcorn chicken rice, and their fried rice is really good. Every time I've come here, the service has been really great, and the food comes out really fast. Their prices have also remained pretty stable over the years, which I appreciate.
We went there for some 卤肉饭 rice with stewed pork. It is not a disappointment. We also had some Taiwanese fried chicken with us. I won't call it not authentic even there is no basil leaves. The milk tea is a bit too sweet in my opinion, which we will not get next time. The meal is more like a homemade Taiwanese food, as it is a family owned business.
A bold move for a family business with not so great reviews to not honor a forgotten item. I ordered through UberEats. An item was missing (don't roll your eyes yet. I know a lot can happen). It was a drink Taro Smoothie. I called the restaurant. The lady admitted to overlooking it. I asked if it was possible for me to go pick it up later. She said to deal with Ubereats since I ordered through them. Except Ubereats didn't mess up my order. You did ma'am. At the end of our conversation, I realized she was concerned with being scammed I suppose. She said, if I allow you, I have to allow everyone. She was worried that I'd pickup the drink, then call UberEats afterwards anyway, to get a refund for my missing item and in turn, she'd have a loss. Ma'am, if I had bad intentions, I would not bother driving 10 miles just to scam you out of a $5 drink. One would think, it'd be easier for a scammer to just call UberEats and tell them that more than one item, if not the whole order was missing. A person was without a drink with their meal. As for the food review, there are some pros and cons of course. You'll definitely be stuffed...with rice. They loaded up on the rice for the ground pork plate and fried pork chop plate. It seems like a decent portion size for the price but the meat to rice ratio is 2:5. The fried pork chop and popcorn chicken was overcooked. The pork chop was dry and the popcorn chicken almost tough. Anyone that knows me, knows I don't like to waste food, but I tossed the popcorn chicken the next day bc I couldn't finish them. They had a good seasoning but it was uneven. some pieces/bites were more salty than others. The ground pork plate was decent, I'll give them that. The dumplings, I didn't care for. It wasn't terrible but I'd buy some frozen brands over theirs. I also ordered a Milk Tea with boba and Avocado Smoothie. Both were just ok. Avocado smoothie is made with real fruit but seems a little diluted. My order was packaged very well and was free from leaks or mess. I also want to add that the lady's phone etiquette was great. Even though we didn't see eye to eye, she never got loud or offensive. She spoke calmly and professionally. It's unfortunate that this was my first experience with coco's cafe. I don't plan to try them again.
It very unassuming but it's my go to place for Asian soup and noodles...including deserts (sweet tofu and boba drinks). Their price is still reasonable in spite of current price inflation. Fast service and authentic Taiwanese, if I'm not mistaken.
