But if it’s your first time going there just go through the alley and the white beams and the restaurant will be in your left side. The food was definitely delicious and worth our driving around time we went for breakfast and ended up with a table, because this placed gets packed. So make sure to make a reservation!
It was the 1st time for me but the wife's plenty of times. Nice lil restaurant with excellent service the staff was awesome. The food was excellent hot and seasoned to the bone. And you get plentiful for portions. l ordered the chicken nachos and 3 people could eat off my plate, my wife had 4 huge pancakes and hash brown casserole and my mother in law had the smothered liver and onions green beans and white potatoes and onions. My wife was mad because she went there thinking she was going to order her favorite fried pickles but the were out of them. We'll go back and try again in a few weeks. Sorry thought I had the pictures of the smothered liver and onions. smh
New location inside the Suffolk Arts building is practically invisible from the parking lot BUT if you go through the white arches you can 't miss it! The Cafe features a full menu (we went for a birthday brunch) the food was made to order and we dined in. It was a real treat and the our server did a great job to boot. The arts center is pretty amazing that they restored the building to maintain that 'old school building ' vibe!
1st time here, it is INSIDE of the Suffolk Center of Cultural Arts and there are NO signs outside. Once we found it we were immediately and warmly greeted and seated. The waitress was very nice. Large selection on the menu. We had to wait awhile for the food. I had fried green tomatoes which were delicious and came with more than I expected, hubby had shrimp which he ate all of and said were good. He got pulled pork and sides for his meal and said everything was good. I got the cold chicken salad plate and was disappointed. The eggs were boiled instead of deviled, and the chicken salad was very plain. Came with a lot of garnishments but not enough to eat with the chicken salad. I asked for some crackers to go with it but she never brought them so I stole hubby's toast and made it work. Sides were ok, sweet potato fries weren't that good. We didn't see nor were offered dessert. $60 for 2 people for lunch. Not a new fav, but I would try again I'd like to try the crabcakes.
The husband and I moved to Holland a little over a year ago. The Turnip was closed due to the pandemic so it took us awhile to get here but man it was worth the wait. The good was fresh and reasonably priced. Good portions but not trough sized. The staff was GREAT. Laid back, friendly, cool. We WILL be back!
