La Scala - Stuttgart

The restaurant is on the second floor of a "back-alley" - not easy to find and because of that probably less frequented.It offers classic Italian dishes with very innovative variations. The food is not only creative but also delicious!The service is caring and typically Italian-friendly. Our waiter went out of his way to accommodate some special dietary needs that we had.The flaws are little: The ambience of the only retaurant room could use some improvement. The colorful paintings on the wall are a little bit in your face and the 90's watch-style clock is really not necessary. Those things are tiny, but would make the experience even better.Despite the high quality of the food, the prices also seem too high. I guess if you have fewer customers, the margins have to be higher.The part that actually lowered my rating from 5 to 4 was the cookedness of the beef we had. We ordered one steak well-done and one steak medium and what we received was medium and rare. We still ate it, but this is something that shouldn't happen at a restaurant of this price class.

On the two visits that I have eaten here, both meals were immaculately prepared. Every taste, texture and sensation was excellent. The service was also well-timed, helpful and polite. Everything one could ask....

I am a vegetarian and we asked our hotel to recommend another Italian restaurant, we had been to the Valle twice, and the hotel offered to book a table. La Scala was the third choice, two others were full. We were the first customers to arrive, although we like to eat early, but even when we left only two other tables were in use. The food was mediocre and the portions were small. We couldn't see anything on the dessert menu so we just ordered coffee. There wasn't even a thimble full of black coffee and no offer of milk. Then to top it all off, the bill was expensive.

If you want a wonderful Italian meal while in this city - look no further. Its not cheap, but its not overly expensive. Great wine list, and simply wonderful fresh pasta, beautifully cooked beef and lamb dishes. No extra ingredients. Simple good food and everything seems so fresh. We had a stoic serious waiter, but enjoyed the service. The place was totally empty at 8.30 pm midweek, so I hope they have the business they deserve.

I went to La Scala with my other half and it was incredibly romantic and the food was amazing! We will definitely go back the next time we are in Germany.
