The Golden Star - Stockport

I used to order takeout from this restaurant regularly, but I hadn't been since lockdown. I finally decided it was time to indulge in some delicious Chinese food again. We started with the hot and sour soup, which was excellent. The Singapore vermicelli that followed was very tasty and loaded with meat and king prawns. I will definitely be returning soon.

We would rate the food at this restaurant a 11 out of 10. We have ordered takeout twice since they reopened and both meals were fantastic. It is a family-run establishment with a very personal touch, offering excellent food at affordable prices. We wish we could eat this food more frequently! We will definitely continue to order from here in the future. The service and food were impeccable from beginning to end. A big shoutout to the chef! - Si and Sarah

I visited this restaurant for the first time tonight. The place was clean and the staff were friendly. I couldn't place a phone order because I couldn't download a menu, so I had to go without seeing it first. The wait time was acceptable, considering there were already a number of people waiting when I arrived. The food was clearly freshly cooked. We started with a mixed starter which was tasty and crispy. The lemon chicken was very succulent, a pleasant surprise compared to my previous experiences with Chinese takeaways where the chicken was dry and stringy. However, the sweet and sour chicken was a let down. The chicken pieces were served separately without too much batter, but they weren't crispy. The sauce, provided in a polystyrene tub, lacked vegetables. It had a decent flavor, but there were barely any vegetables present, just a few wispy strings that I couldn't identify as onion, carrot, or both. There were no pineapples, peppers, or real pieces of onion or carrot that I would like in a sweet and sour dish. It was a shame.

Been a few times and there are always people waiting and lots of telephone orders, a good sign of its popularity. Service is always very friendly and prices comparable with other take aways in the area, The bbq and salt and pepper ribs are both exceptional. Portions overall are excellent and we always order too much! Will definitely return.

I’ve eaten at this takeaway for over 20 years but unfortunately the previous owners have sold the business and the new owners promised things wouldn’t change! Well unfortunately it has, the ingredients have changed and the quality of food has changed! We tried 3 rimes but gave up. Not what’s it was.
