Beautiful ambiente, especially the outside seats in sommer, need to visit my next booze meal.
Incredible service and eating! we had a great waiter who really raised the charm of an already charming place! He really made us feel, we were special guests, although we were only average haha! as far as eating is concerned, I can highly recommend the french woof, seafood risotto and brotpudding. also a bite of my men chocolate cake: a! when they have the coins, they go here!

I am from out of state, and I always look forward to eating at Charlie Gitto’s On The Hill when I am in STL. I have probably eaten there at least ten times in the past 15 years. When I ate there about a year ago, I remember commenting that it was not as good as it used to be, and my experience there last night did not anywhere near live up to the enjoyment that I have had in my earlier visits. OpenTable does not give me the space to share the full details, so I will offer the following summary. Rushed and not thoughtful service. Warm white wine which we returned. Chunks of tough “calamari“ that the breading was falling off of. Mediocre veal marsala that did not taste of marsala. No adjustment to the bill for the warm wine. Overall, it seems that the restaurant is getting a bit sloppy both in service and in food, resting on its fine reputation from years past. Hopefully it will not continue to slide.
The food was decent with generous portions, but the sauces were lacking in flavor and were too sweet. The red sauce seemed to be store-bought. I had higher expectations for this restaurant. The pasta was the highlight, as it was freshly made. It appears that this restaurant is living off its past reputation and is headed in the wrong direction.
