We waitlisted on yelp and it told us 20 minutes our table was ready when we got there sopretty accurate. Our waitress Hannah did an excellent job with drink recommendations and service
Must commend the restaurant It?s located down a flight of stairs and the lighting is on the darker side but?. Amazing food ! great service Maria. Thank you The chef Cody deserves applause for the great fare served to us We had roasted cauliflower5/5 whipped mascarpone 5/5? Margherita pizza 5/5 Mushroom and Truffle Pizza 5/5 Casa Insalata 5/5 great salad chef PippardellePasta again 5/5 Cacio E pepe paled in comparison followed by dessert Tiramisu 4/5 Gelatos 3/5
Ordered the pappardelle with lamb ragù. The dish as advertised was said to include dark chocolate, star anise, orange zest, and pecorino. The star anise and orange zest were not readily detectable to my undiscerning palate, and the hint of chocolate was not overwhelming but rather remote and pleasantly so. The dish was sauced expertly, and I was not overwhelmed by the portion size, rather, it was precisely the right amount of food for me. Sadly, I did not order a pizza, the wood burning in the stove must make an amazing pie. There’s always next time. I would definitely go back.
Tried Basso because it is adjacent to my hotel and I'd earned a food credit with my stay. Was quite impressed! The basement interior was moody and stylish. Loved the gas sconces. Butter lettuce: a twist on a Caesar salad; good size for one person's meal, but served with tongs for sharing. Glazed carrots: great idea; wish they had a tiny bit more crunch. Margherita pizza: probably the best I've ever had; ask for balsamic to dip your crusts in. Service was fantastic. Especially grateful for the cider recommendation, as well as the information about a few of the more obscure ingredients.
We always love this place. We usually try to make happy hour, but even if you can't, I highly recommend. The dishes are thoughtful and definitely fit the vibe (underground, dark wood, rich flavors) without being stuffy. The menu is accommodating to those of us with dietary restrictions and you won't break the bank on date night.
