Costa Coffee - St. Helens

My son is a big fan of Costa, so we were both looking forward to trying the Maple Latte and other items. The coffee was delicious and the toasties never disappoint. However, I have the same complaint as usual with most Costa locations - the cleanliness. The floor was messy and there was food scattered under many tables. I was so put off that I didn't even bother taking a photo to share. I couldn't help but wonder if all Costas are understaffed or run by franchises trying to cut costs. It seemed like they were prioritizing profit over cleanliness. If they had enough staff, they should have them clean tables and sweep the floors throughout the day. In this particular location, the staff was juggling taking orders, making coffee, preparing toasties, and handling the till without washing their hands in between tasks.

I went for a quick lunch at this busy restaurant. There were only 2 staff working during lunchtime, just like on our last 2 visits. The line was out the door and even though the 2 staff members were trying their best, they struggled to keep up with the demand. There were empty tables available, but they were all covered in dirty dishes, as well as the condiment station and the end of the counter where customers had placed them to make room to eat. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

The customer service at this restaurant was excellent, with a friendly and welcoming staff. I enjoyed a delicious drink, the salted caramel frappe. The place was also very clean.

Took an age to serve even though place was almost empty(perhaps that’s why it was empty) 1/2 a cup of coffee with hardly any froth on cappuccino and latte was just milk, not given a second plate to accommodate two cakes, no serviettes given as these must come out of staffs own wages, spoon very dirty and tables needed clearing, there was ample staff stood around doing nothing. I usually come here every week but won’t be bothering as it has gone really down hill and dingy.

The Staff work really hard to provide great coffee and service. It can get really busy at times but the staff deal with everything that is thrown at them. Best Costa by far.
