We came here for refreshments after a funeral. Graham made things super easy for us and couldn’t have been more helpful. We had a room to ourselves (around 18 of us) with plenty of food, tea coffee. We didn’t go out in the garden, but it looked great! There wasn’t a disabled loo, but the loo was ground floor and not up/down any steps. They had a portable ramp so a wheelchair could enter the pub and once in, it was easy to get around. Good selection of beers and drinks and quick friendly service- they made a difficult time as easy as possible for us and I’m really grateful. It seemed a lovely pub.
Having been told this place does lovely Sunday lunches we thought we would give it a go. Was quite busy. Only one girl doing all the work out front of house. The landlord was doing drinks. We were sat waiting a while for our order to be taken. We nearly left aa the place wasn't very clean. Dusty, dirty carpets and a melt fusty. People were eating away so we thought the food must be nice!!. We ordered beef dinner. Not given much at all. We only waited 5 minutes for the food to arrive. We were sat near the kitchen door but we couldn't smell any food cooking. We had not been freshly cooked food but Aldi ready meals!!!. Even the sweets were Aldi. Very run down. Avoid at all cost.
First time ever been to this area. We was looking for a homemade pub grub that’s what we got when we went in on the Friday. In total there was 4 of us. We ordered… BBQ ribs, coleslaw fries from the special board DELICIOUS! X3 lamb shank, mash veg lamb was lovely also the mash, but could have done with a little more veg. Bread butter pudding little a bit dry thin piece Sticky toffee pudding Lotus cheesecake Spice apple crumble Food was lovely so we came back on Sunday for a Sunday dinner. All four of us had the beef dinner. We did look around as you do, to look what it looked like it looked nice. We did notice a couple in there have 1 veg plate between them both. The plate included… peas, cheesy cauliflower, cabbage. So with there been 4 of us we presumed we get two. Wrong! We got 1 plate which was very hard to share between 4 so we did order another one, this then left other guests without veg our second order of veg scares. The beef was lovely! We couldn’t moan to much as £20 for a Sunday dinner pudding isn’t bad value. But I must say I think most of the food isn’t homemade I.e roasties, Yorkshire puddings veg. Also there was 1 girl rushed off her feet while landlord was stood behind the bar. I know they do have a sign asking for more staff but the girl was serving, cleaning plates, taking orders. And the pub had more than enough people for 1 person. She really did cope well.
I just wanted to write a review because I used to work at this pub for a couple of months and this is what I have to say about this place. A little background so I applied to work for the boosh bar (the owner of the pub owns the cocktail bar in bury) and whilst I had my interview they asked if I would like to work at the woolpack to get some bar experience. So I said yes and this started the worst experience of my life. First of, the landlord Graham, is the rudest man I have ever met in my entire life, whilst I was working he belittled me in ear shot of guests which max me feel so uncomfortable and frankly like a peasant. When I wasn’t working the landowner would message me on days that I wasn’t working, asking me about my during the morning and evening, trying to discuss topics of conversation which were very inappropriate and not to do with work at all. Such topics as did I have a partner and if we were happy, if my home life was good and wanted to know more than what was exceptable. Whilst still working, I put on a brave face and still went in, but was treated like rubbish the whole shift and could not do anything right in his eyes. The customers who came in were lovely and I enjoyed talking to them when I had time when the landlord wasn’t rushing me around everywhere whilst he stood behind the bar thinking he was the bees knees. I finally left after a couple months of this, I then heard that after I left lots of other people who have worked here have been through the same thing so it wasn’t a one off. Please do not work here if you are looking for a job, there are better places to work and avoid this place at all costs.
