All the wood and industrial fixtures look great and the way they opened up the bar area is wonderful. The place looks really great. Now to the nitty gritty. When you walk in and are greeted by a guy who you assume is the manager, you should be greeted. He never smiled, never said hello, just blah, and he looked like we were bothering him by being there. He said 4 of you, my husband 6. He then said you can sit wherever you want and followed us until we sat and handed us menus. My helpful hint Mr. Manager Guy...smile, say hello, welcome, thank you for joining us, is this your first time here, anything. Make small talk. Even if your food is mediocre, people will come back and try something else if you are welcoming and have good service. Then, came the server. The waitress was not great. She did not recommend anything, forgot my drink, and looked dumbfounded anytime we asked a question. Boring. Also, we were all done eating, but were going to continue to drink. She left all the plates and said, I 'll tell the busboy to clear those. He never came. She came back a couple more times and just left the plates. Helpful hint Ms. Waitress Girl...smile, make small talk, remove plates instead of having the busboy do it. It 's to your advantage to have your customers happy. As for the food, it was meh. I ordered a grilled cajun chicken sandwich. It did not taste like anything but grilled chicken. Everyone else 's food was also mediocre. I had the fried green beans....yuck. They were thickly breaded and gross. If you blindfolded someone and had them eat one, they wouldn 't be able to guess there was a green bean in there, just breading. Unfortunately, I am going to guess this will go the way of every other restaurant that has been there. We may try it again, but if the continue the way they are, they may close before we get back there. Oh, and besides the great decor, they have a small party room. This would be awesome, just get some friendlier people and serve tastier food. That 's not too much to ask for.
Good food, and good value. I stopped by last week and tried Niko's Tavern for the first time. I had a burger, and my daughter had a wrap. The burger was huge! 10 oz. It was seasoned nicely throughout, and cooked perfectly to order. My daughter was happy with her chicken wrap. I upgraded my side order to Mac and Cheese, which was very good, and it was large enough that I gave half to my daughter. I noticed that they had a text for coupon offer, so I got $5 off the bill. With tax and tip, the total was about $30. Very good! I plan to go back.
Niko's Tavern just opened recently in the space formerly occupied by Tavern in the Hills. The atmosphere is more open with the removal of the fireplace in the center of the dining room. Still has a country feel though. The owners are the same as the Niko's in Woodstock. Service is friendly and attentive. We were greeted very fast at the bar and the manager, Chaz, came over to see how we were doing. Menu is burgers, apps, sandwiches, salads (most types of pub food). We started with the Curds which were crispy and hot and they are made Wisconsin style with white cheddar, thank god. I hate orange cheese curds. I had the Montana Chicken Sandwich which was very good. It was accompanied by fries and a very crispy and delicious pickle. My wife had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich which she enjoyed as well. Beer Selection is good with 13 draft beers. Nice selection of whisky also. All in all I am happy to see them fill the void left by the previous restaurant. It's Friday I am sitting at the bar and it is packed. Thumbs Up!
First time since new owners opened. Calamari appetizer was excellent. Home made salad dressing..saayy whAAAt!!?? Would recommend the ribs AND the garlic and butter greenbeans. Maddy gave great service, and Chaz came over to make sure everything was cool. Keep it up guys, and you will do well here! Highly recommend.
Nothing to write home about. A $14 very berry salad with strawberries not ripe enough to serve. Chicken breast was dry and only 4 strips. It looked big, but looks can deceive. Just not a good value AT ALL in my opinion... saw a few other plates go out and not impressed with the looks either. I won 't go back...
