Restaurant: deck is nice with a good street viewNot as busy as the waterfront places, which I liked.
I arrived at the restaurant to eat with my two children and two grandchildren for supper around 4 pm on a Tuesday afternoon. A young lady quickly sat us in the dining room as that was the only place left for us to sit for a table of 5, she told us that our server would be Mo. The youngest (one-year-old) traveling companion was a tad hungry and visible upset. Having worked in the hospitality industry for a few years when going to university, I was a bit shocked that the server did not immediately offer some crackers or a roll for the baby but rather was more concerned about taking our orders. We had to ask Mo for something for the baby which he brought two salted crackers. Not enough to contain this child until the meal would arrive, so my daughter ended up walking back to the car which was quite the hike to get snacks to hold the baby over. Once our food arrived my club sandwich was on whole wheat bread which I certainly did not order, but I figured that they must have been out of other bread or whole wheat was the only option. I ate it anyways despite heavily disliking whole wheat cause I was far too hungry to wait for anything else. Besides, Mo never bothered to come back and ask us our meal was anyways so I could not mention the whole wheat bread issue or ask for ketchup for our fries or for more water. I had overheard Mo asking another table if they wanted white or whole wheat bread with their sandwich. While all this was going on, I was thinking geesh this guy is not getting a good tip as the service has been terrible but will give him something he must be new or something. When it comes to the end of the meal Mo never asked if we wanted any dessert justs are you done and brings the bill. At this point, I think okay definitely not getting a good tip, and I am going to have to speak to management about this. Then I overhear Mo talking to three older ladies seated in the dining room and he refers to how he loves his job and his staff at the restaurant. The three women comment how it really shows that he cares a lot. I was flabbergasted that Mo was either the manager or owner of this establishment and had no idea what customer service is! Well at least for my table anyhow. Needless to say, no tip for Mo and I will never go there again. I retold the story to my husband who is a chronic over tipper as we eat out frequently once I arrived home. The first thing he said was I hope you did not leave a tip. I have never in my life not left a tip no matter how bad service was as I could always empathize as I once waitressed myself, but today I left no tip manager or owner whatever Mo title he should know better!!!!!
6 adults and 2 children in our party. Ate in the dining room which was a nice setting. Food was only average. Children ordered from the Kids menu and were happy with what they got. 7 year old's comment was the the chicken fingers were the best ever. The adult meals however were only average. The Shiretown burger was properly cooked but without a lot of flavor. The fries were hot well cooked and seasoned. Several had the Halibut wrap with similar comments. The fish cakes lacked flavor. All in all a disappointment.
Pub located in a historic inn with an outdoor patio which overlooks Water Street. Live entertainment on the weekend (a recent Saturday we were there ). Their only wine by the glass is the label 'Fuzion' ( ie instant heartburn). Stick to beer here.
