Went to sopwell house for an event and after we went into the conservatory lounge for a drink and bit to eat. We was served by Harri who was so lovely. He was well mannered friendly and remembered things we had said. He is a great asset to sopwell house.
We recently visited The Brasserie for a special lunch. I have stayed at the hotel several times, been on a few spa days and had afternoon tea, but this was first visit to The Brasserie, so I had high expectations as every other visit to the hotel has been amazing. The staff were lovely, maybe a bit of a slow service given there wasn't that many other tables of diners, but that was fine as I'd rather that than be rushed. Our starters and puds were wonderful but we orfered the chateaubriand to share, choosing medium/well as the description of cooking on the menu seemed most appropriate. However, it was definitely well done and unfortunately didn't really taste like a tender steak. We ate most of it as it takes 40 minutes to cook, apparently as stated on the menu, and we didn't want to wait that long for another one. I wasn't going to say anything as we ate most of it but when the Manager took the plates away, she asked if evething was good, so I just explained the steak seemed to be well done, as was clear from what we had left, but instead of apologising, she just cleared the plates away. She returned a few minutes later to inform us this was the end cut of meat. Still no acknowledgement that it was over cooked and no apology that we hadn't fully enjoyed the meal. Now this was the most expensive item on the menu so just an acknowledgement that it wasn't what we had expected, rather than just trying to justify the meal, would have been nice. Suffice to say, we won't be returning to the restaurant. Such a shame as every other area of the hotel has been amazing.
We were in extremely good hands with Gabor our waiter last night. He was friendly, funny and very helpful with deciding what we would like to eat and drink that evening. He took the time to speak to us about something else too, and it was perfect personal service. He also noticed we were celebrating an engagement and birthday and expressed his congratulations, as well as arranging a special something from the kitchen. The food was great as well scallops to start, chicken and salmon mains and cheese and Eton mess to finish all delicious. Can’t wait to dine again!
My husband and I, both food enthusiasts who have been fortunate enough to sample cuisine from all around the world, recently dined at The Brasserie at Sopwell House and were thoroughly impressed by the new Winter Menu curated by Chef Mari. The steak tartare, in particular, stood out as possibly the best we have ever had, thanks to the perfect balance of flavors and high-quality ingredients. The varied and delicious menu showcases seasonal produce and is executed flawlessly by the hardworking kitchen team. We can't seem to stay away from this exceptional culinary experience. Kudos to the team for a job well done!
