The kartoffel was overcooked, black in color, and so hard that we couldn't even cut it in half (we even had to use a steak knife). The sweet was also overcooked, there were no Yorkshire puddings or pork in the dish. It was very poor quality and definitely not worth the 50 pounds we paid. The pudding, a Rhubarb crumble, was also unpleasant as it was soggy and poorly made. I reached out to them via email to voice my concerns, but they did not even bother to respond. It was very disappointing that they did not even apologize for the bad experience.
I am from the nearby city of St. Albans, but I traveled to the Amble-Inn in Harpenden on the recommendation of my sister. I took my friend, who is now my fiancé, for our second anniversary. I consider myself a wine enthusiast, and I was impressed by the variety of wines they had. The atmosphere in the pub was charming, reminiscent of a traditional English pub with a cozy log fire and vintage décor. I ordered the steak (rare) and my friend ordered the fish and chips. Both dishes were served promptly and cooked to perfection. The steak was delicious (I now purchase meat from the same butcher they use) and the fish and chips were also excellent (with mushy peas on the side).
I recently revisited the Amble Inn in Harp End after almost three years and I am happy to report that it has significantly improved since my last visit. Previously known as the Delphin, the pub was a run-down establishment frequented by the city's undesirables. However, it has now undergone a transformation and is a lovely, picturesque pub with a cozy fireplace, charming decor, and a fantastic chip shop.
I am from the nearby city of st. albans, but traveled to the Amble-Inn in harpenden on recommendation of my sister. I took my friend (now fiance) for our second jubilee. I think I'm a wine-consist and was impressed by the choices of the weepings they had. the atmosphere in the pub was also beautiful, it was a jewel of a traditional English pub, as it used to be with a log fire and vintage decor. I ordered the steak (rare) and my friend ordered the fish and chips. both were delivered in time and cooked for perfection. the steak was beautiful (I now use the same metzger as they do after resting over it), as the fish and chips (with muddy brooms also I was very happy with my meal and service and recommended them to several friends. and I will come back soon!
