Kanpai Of Tokyo - Spartanburg

Food tasted great and we were given generous portions. On the downside, service was slow today on our Sunday lunch visit. Our sushi and egg roll appetizer came out after chef was cooking our main entree. Restaurant dining room and bathrooms were not as clean as I expected. I will give them another try but not for a special family celebration like we had today.

They don't give you your full meal with to-go orders. You do not get a soup and salad with hibachi even though it says right there on the menu that it comes with a soup and salad. (I was told I could buy it separately at full price if I wanted. I'm not talking about a mistake being made. I was told that this is their policy. The employee was friendly and agreed that it was a weird policy that doesn't make any sense.

The food was subpar from this restaurant. Lack of flavor and overcooked. Definitely not worth the price paid. Sign on door noted under new management they have a lot of work to do to make this an average place. Cleanliness rated at a C . Another negative was the automatic 18% tip for parties of 4 or more. Won 't be heading back here.

It was fine. Food was decent. Service was decent. Ambience was LOUD. But it was Friday night, so ....

We have been fans of Kanpai for years. However, it has been awhile since we have visited. This was due to a variety of reason other than the pandemic. I was really excited to learn they were under new management and decided to give them a try. We went in on s Saturday afternoon with no reservation and were promptly seated. Our server, Matthew, was very friendly and attentive. Our cook, Rico, did his thing on the hibachi. He was entertaining without being obnoxious. Our food was well seasoned and flavorful. Our ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium. If you're in the mood for hibachi, give Kanpai a try. You will be pleasantly surprised!
