My last visit to the Funky Fish Inn was in mid-2017 when I spent a couple of months on the coast. I loved it then, and I was eager to see how the new management was doing now that I'm back on the coast due to Covid-19. I visited about a month ago and was delighted to meet the new owner, Bianca, and try their $8 special Fish and Chips. It was fabulous. I took it down to Paradise Point and enjoyed it under the blue skies, sunshine, and the sound of water nearby. I returned today as we were in the neighborhood and like to visit a place a few times for consistency. Once again, it was perfect. The portion size was generous, with a big piece of fish that covered half the plate and a good serving of chips. This time, we took the food home and reheated it in the oven for dinner, and it was still delicious. The fish was fresh, with nice large flakes that I believe Bianca mentioned were Dory (although I'm not 100% sure). Fast, fresh, fabulous – what more could you ask for from a fish and chip shop? And the price was fair. We will definitely be back.
I ordered two orders of calamari and a serving of chips over the phone and picked it up at 7:40pm. The calamari was cooked perfectly and the chips were also good. I plan to try the affordable fish and chips special on Tuesdays next time.
The Funky Fish Inn has a good selection of takeaway food. They have a good variety of fish and you can have it grilled, crumbed or fried and the servings are generous. They also have a variety of burgers and these are huge. With potato chips, and a selection of seafood products, salads etc. there's plenty of choice and prices are reasonable. This is my favourite Fish shop in the area and it can get very popular, especially at weekends. They have changed management recently so hopefully they can keep up the good quality that the previous owners had.Give it a go!
Decided to grab a quick fish and chips tonight, thought we'd Fish Inn again, figured the new guys would have had a chance to settle in by now. Very very disappointed. The chips were still very dry and overcooked. The fish I had was so oily it was barely edible. The one they got right this time was not to include the lemon, to which I'm allergic (they'd not read instructions last time and included it). Partner's dinner was also inedible: same quality chips, and his usual 'burger with egg'. Not 'burger with the lot', not 'cheese burger with egg' - the same cheeseless 'burger with egg' he's been buying for at least 7 years. Except it came half cooked, and with cheese. Manfully, he tried to eat it and had to give up after three bites, just turned his stomach. We won't be back: they can't be bothered following dietary requirements and known customer preferences.
