We booked Sunday dinner at the Tippling Philosopher in advance as noted from reviews it can get busy. We visited the pub when we arrived on the Friday evening and felt very welcome. Nice atmosphere with lots of locals. Good selection of beer and wine. We came back for a coffee Saturday morning and really liked the community feel during the day too. On Sunday we had the roast dinner which was delicious. Fresh veg and lots of it! Beautifully cooked meat. We then came back on the Sunday evening for the pub quiz. Again, we were made to feel very welcome despite everyone else being local. Children are allowed in the pub until 9pm, but the landlady said if my daughter was well behaved she could stay until the end of the quiz (she’s 10 . Overall, the pub made our trip to Milborne Port very enjoyable. It seems to be a proper community hub and the owners obviously put a lot of effort into it. Thanks for having us :
This is by no means my first review of this lovely pub. But the consistency we find with their meals and the Sunday roast in particular is worth telling over and over. Today three of us all went for the roast beef melt in the mouth, and cut just as one wants it, rare for those of us who like it that way, through to well done if that's your preference. And served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pud, four seasonal vegetables (today it was red cabbage, broccoli, carrots and green beans) and lots of thick beef gravy. We chose not to have starters or desserts this time, opting for the large main meal alone and so ignoring the slightly smaller option. Today, had we not gone for the beef, we could have had the pork, which we have had on occasion, as it always comes with stuffing and perfect crackling. And it is always just as good great consistency that we've never found anywhere else, and price wise it's all amazing good value too. In short, it's hard to beat, on quantity, quality and price and little wonder therefore that it's always wise to book in advance. That said, Dave and Di run a place where nothing's too much trouble and they'll always fit you in if they can, but my advice is, when it comes to food this good, don't leave it to chance, pick up the phone and book. We already have, and we'll be back at our usual table next Sunday.
My daughter had a surprise hen party this Saturday done by her friends...just want to thank Di and Dave for making her evening so extra special,.the buffet was yummy ..we were all welcomed into the pub area to join in with the Disco that was separate to the hen party and what a fabulous time was had by all!! Good Memories...A Big Thankyou
We were on an easter break and popped into this pub for dinner and a few drinks on a Saturday evening, as we were staying a short walk from here. For a remote pub and the only pub in this village, it was absolutely shocking. Staff/owners were miserable as sin and were not very welcoming at all. The atmosphere was terrible and actually made you feel you were aliens visiting from another planet or something. Food was questionable to the point where unfortunately I was poorly that evening and the following day. It was such a shame that this pub was so bad, as usually in remote villages with nothing else around, they are usually the best ones to visit. Surfice to say we had a couple of drinks and left. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.
Booked last minute for Valentines special, 2 steaks and bottle of wine. The wife had Fillet Steak, I had sirloin. Both cooked to perfection. Chips, mushrooms, salad ect were all great. Nothing to complain about. Amazing food. Great service. Great price. Will definitely be back.
