It was a quiet Monday evening and the Lounge was largely empty. This is a modern and sparse Lounge, but it was pretty easy to find a quiet corner. The hard surfaces made everyone seem like they were sitting much closer than they actually were, voices and conversations carried. Food selections were pretty limited, likely due to no Cathay Pacific flights leaving during or shortly after my visit. I was still able to grab some food including a nice salad and little sandwiches with the crusts cut off. The bar was self serve (my first self-serve lounge bar) so it was kinda fun making my own drinks using top shelf ingredients. I appreciated the reading materials, newspapers and magazines, but did miss being able to watch the operations of the airport (one of my favorite things to do when at an airport lounge). Staff was pretty polite but just at at the front desk. No other staff were around.
Great lounge. Lots of room with good mix of furniture. They offer several different food options (including beer and wine). The Noodle Bar is where they separate themselves. You have an option of Dan Dan, Wonton, and Vegetarian. Order at the window, they hand you a buzzer/pager, and happiness in a bowl a few minutes later. I was a fan of the Dan Dan Noodle. Beautiful combination of peanut broth, ground peanuts, sesame and chili oils in a pork based broth. My wife liked the Wonton Noodle. Ground shrimp and pork wontons served in a pork based broth.
They have food and showers. Hot food is only available when Cathay flights are departing/arriving so something to note if you're flying another one world partner. The wonton noodle soup is the best out of all the hot food offerings. The Dan dan noodles, if they use the same recipe as the Cathay lounge at heathrow, is bad (although I didn't try it at sfo). Staff are very nice and service is fantastic. The sandwiches and other cold food offerings didn't look so appetizing (British airways lounge is better for these)
There is no question that other airlines could take lessons from Cathay Pacific and the way to treat guests. One of the best lounges at SFO. They actually have complimentary food that they cook to order.
Easy to find with lots of places to sit while waiting for a flight, we enjoyed light snacks of sandwiches and salads. In addition there were hot foods and plenty of choices of beverages, both alcoholic and non. The lounge was not far from the gates and a great way to start a LONG flight.
