The highlight of our stay was the all-you-can-eat breakfast the next morning. They offered a choice of cereal or a full English breakfast, both of which were delicious.
We arrived at the Samlesbury Hotel just after 6.00 on a Sunday evening after a 280-mile journey, and decided to dine in for the first night of our stay. If we hadn't been busy with business over the next two days, we would have chosen to eat here every night. The menu is simple yet offers a variety of options, and based on the delicious and well-presented dishes we tried, this restaurant comes highly recommended and offers good value. We were tempted by a neighboring table's choice and decided to share the outstanding fish platter as a starter. In all honesty, we would have been satisfied with a portion each as a main course. The platter included deep-fried squid, battered prawns, smoked mackerel pate, homemade Marie Rose and tartare sauces, fresh buttered granary bread, and a side salad. My main course was shoulder of lamb, served in a unique square block form. Although I have had more tender and flavorful lamb elsewhere, it was still acceptable despite not being cooked to my preferred pinkness. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her goat's cheese super salad. The service was efficient, friendly, and professional, and I was pleased to find decaffeinated espresso available at the bar. Our bill came to £53 for two courses without alcohol, making it a bit pricey but justifiable considering the quality of the food, service, and ambiance.
The food was delicious. However service was slow and it was quite chilly in the restaurant as we were seated under the air conditioning.
Nice clean hotel. Staff were friendly. No hair dryer in the room, called down to reception and it was brought up within 5 minutes. Food was nice. Would stay here again.
THE SAMLESBURY HOTEL I have dined in the restaurant and had the breakfast which were both great. However, the Christmas meal was poor, very poor, tiny portions of over chilled food, The only nice part was the warm bread roll. £32 per head! We asked the blonde manager for a jug of water and we were told to go to the bar ourselves! After the meal in the bar we were all sat enjoy drinks and we wanted nibbles, I went to the bar and asked for crisps, nuts olives etc for the table ... I was told 'we don 't do them, but it 's not unusual for guests to ring for take away!!! ' WHAT!!!! I 'd just brought three tables at £32 a head and you want me to order take away !!!!! SERIOUSLY ?!?!?!? The red carpet entrance was crumpled with wires trailing and not one member of staff all night went to straighten the trip hazard. The setting is lovely. I just hope you get your value for money and service to match it.
