Upon returning to the table I told friends what I seen only to be told she works in the place. Apart from that incident the place was fairly decent.
Late home from Edinburgh and we couldn't be bothered cooking so were drove past this place and parked up. I had the haggis pakora and the lasagne. The haggis pakora was pretty good, the batter was more like chicken pakora batter and was just slightly over and therefore just a tiny bit tough, but it really is a minor point, it was still tasty and the haggis was a decent enough variety. The lasagne was just as I like it, I can't be bothered with sloppy, it has to have plenty of meat, be juicy and yet still solid and in its intended shape. That came with garlic bread, which was fine, but also with unnecessary salad. My partner's steak came with chips, and salad too which in the case of her's was a bit old and wilted. Whatever happened to mushrooms, that's what you serve with steak, not salad! Yea it's a simple Belhaven pub, but it's got a reputation as being one of the better ones in Rutherglen, and with large, good value portions, tempting offers, pleasant staff and a clean, modern interior you could do a lot worse than eat here.
Usually enjoy Picture House for what it is, cheap and cheerful. Tonight had the steak and wine deal and it was actually shoe leather with wine. Totally inedible I couldn't even get my fork into the steak never mind chewing it. And throughout it all the music was more like an Ibiza nightclub. Obviously meant to stress you so that you will drink more. Won't be going back. No problems with the staff they are all lovely, young and friendly. Should have refused to pay for the food and left a smaller tip than usual. Sorry guys, have a word with your kitchen.
For Kris B. and I, the Picture House is a means to an end; if we're feeling too lazy to venture into the city centre or the west end, The Picture House is on hand for a drink and some pub grub. I think it's Belhaven who own The Picture House but don't quote me on that... The food is actually of a pretty decent quality; no grey-looking burgers or rubbery chickens here! I've had various meals here of late, and all have hit the spot pretty well. It's not haute cuisine but you come away feeling sated and you get a fair deal for your money. Good selection of beers usually as well, and they almost always have some sort of drinks festival on, so keep an eye out for those... The downside to The Picture House is that on busy days its security can let them down a little. I've seen more than a few ruckus' kicking off with the bouncers doing very little to help, and Kris B. has, on occasion, spotted people indulging in some nose-candy in the bathroom on a Saturday night. Just ew. The only reason we still go is because we've lived here long enough to know what days are fine and when to avoid this place like the plague. But if it gets any worse, toodles!
Staff are very friendly, foods amazing, drink is good value for money. The place it's self is clean nice to take the family for a meal, then at night...
