Brought some friends here for pre dinner drinks and straight away their reaction was why haven't we been here before, as 2 fighter jets raced across Windermere in front of us, turning on their sides as they did so. We were the only customers on the terrace, the waiter acknowledged us when we arrived but never came out to serve us, apologising when I went in to order at the bar. I was thirsty and had a lager shandy, mostly lemonade and the price for the same drinks without the snacks was more than the previous hotel we'd been to!
We, a family group of 11, made a pit stop at this restaurant for drinks. The staff was friendly and accommodating, allowing us to use the facilities with our children and baby. They also had excellent accommodations for disabled guests.
It could and should be the place to go but this was our third Lakes hol this year and our first visit. Called in after a long walk and nobody greets you, they just carry on doing what they're doing. Ask if alright to just get some seats on the balcony, asked if we want food, said just drinks, told they'll get a menu. We knew what we wanted so I waited at the bar whilst my friends got the seats. Ordered the drinks, went to sit down and waited for the drinks. Drinks finally arrived and weren't as we'd ordered. Great view and we were perfectly happy. Settled up...£6.20 a pint and £2.65 for half a spring water.
As a non-resident, I entered the lounge and found a wonderful window seat with a beautiful view of the lake. I decided to try the Club sandwich. It took a bit longer to arrive due to the busy atmosphere in another area of the hotel, but it was definitely worth the wait. The meal was very satisfying and I will definitely be coming back.
On a Saturday, which may not have been the best day to impress a potential client, we decided to meet at The Old England before heading to a sports event. We arrived at noon to find only two staff members, Geoff (the manager) and Tomas, covering the lounge area. I must say, these two gentlemen were excellent. They were engaging and friendly, making sure that we were well taken care of while also being aware of the purpose of our meeting. Despite a party of women enjoying gin at another table, Geoff and Tomas managed the service smoothly and with smiles. I will definitely be returning to The Old England in the future, as the team's excellent service left a positive impression on me and my guest. Well done to the staff!
