Anglers Arms - South Lakeland

This is a delightful pub! The staff are fantastic and the food was outstanding. We will definitely return, and next time I'll make sure to pre-order the lemon posset, haha!

Lovely quaint pub. Delicious food and brilliant atmosphere. Decorations are inviting. A warm and friendly establishment. We had the vegetable soup and mushroom starter which were amazing! The beef burger, fries, and curry were tasty as well.

We enjoyed our non-alcoholic drinks, as we were quite thirsty, and took a look at the menu. I was surprised to find that the steak pie was nearly £18, and a chicken breast wrapped in bacon was over £21. It felt like we were being charged restaurant prices for pub fare. For that amount, I expected a generous pie filled with tender chunks of steak, but what I received did not meet those expectations. The pie looked nice but was smaller than anticipated, with tiny pieces of meat that were quite underwhelming. It came with twelve chips, five types of mixed vegetables, and a small serving of thin gravy on the side. My wife opted for the Romanian kebabs, which were decent but overpowered by a strong garlic flavor. The desserts were fine as well, though still a bit pricey. My wife argued that the prices reflected the location in the Lake District, but I countered that I had visited the Angler's back in 1977 when a far superior pie cost around £2.95. Over the years, I've seen various visits, and I can only speculate that the Lakes have been taken over by affluent Southerners accustomed to paying high London prices. While some parts of the pub have been improved, others are still lacking, such as the men's toilets, which seem almost to belong to the next village. There remains no provision for disabled visitors or a parking area. You wouldn't think we're in the 21st century. While it was pleasant to return, I doubt we'll be back anytime soon.

My wife and I visited for lunch on Saturday, September 23, 2023. I ordered the lasagna and my wife had the meatballs, both of which were from the special menu. We finished our meal with sticky toffee pudding. Everything we had was delicious, served hot, and beautifully presented. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
