1881 Restaurant Bar - South Lakeland

This is the only restaurant I have ever eaten that doesnt have a starter menu! some of our squid was still half frozen, but the cooked ones were delicious Our mains and puddings were also excellent

While vacationing in Bowness, we decided to dine at 1881 restaurant as part of a 2 for 1 deal offered through Compare the Meerkats. I tried to make a reservation three days in advance, but was informed that we needed to book at least 24 hours prior. Despite attempting to call on both Saturday and Sunday with no response, we decided to walk to the hotel on the day we wanted to eat and managed to secure a table for 6pm. However, upon arrival we were unable to find anyone to seat us or serve drinks. After waiting for 10 minutes, we finally spoke to a receptionist who informed us that the kitchen was closed and no meals were available. The receptionist claimed they had called to cancel, but this was not true. We declined the offer to rebook as the level of service and communication was extremely poor for a supposedly high-class establishment. We rated our experience a 1 out of 5 and will not be returning.

Stayed for two nights and enjoyed very good food and friendly service. Only one complaint is that they had run out of Cabernate Sauvinon, Merlot and Shiraz wine and made no attempt to get it in.

The food in this restaurant was very good. The lamb rump was excellent, the steak was perfectly cooked very nice. The self service breakfast was one of the best of this type we have had. Staff friendly

I visited this restaurant for a couple of days. Firstly, the elevator was out of order. Secondly, we were served the wrong food during dinner time. Thirdly, our rooms were not cleaned on the second day.
