It is a few times acceptable, occasionally pleasant when sitting down, but I cannot remember a good experience in the last few years. The service is usually good in the basement, but somewhere else is quite lousy. Bad enough to negate the novelty of the roof seats in the city. This is the kind of place where to send an order back, say because they unannounced meat on the meal of your vegetarian woman, is a huge hate. The server will not apologise, you will let you know that you jammed it and declare that it did not cook it as if a) that counts at all, b) You do not understand the concept of a restaurant, or C) all above, and of course it is expected that 20%. If this kind of thing happens once, not a big thing, but it seems to be their culture now, and I can't see it going back soon. I guess they're coming to folks nostalgic for a Norman Rockwell Main Street joint, but if your server doesn't look old enough to have known norm personally, go right away. There are not so many breakfast places in the city, but everyone I visited is better, including Benny's Clam Shack (now Wing Shack, not sure if he was still breakfast, but it was tops). You can also go to Applebee’s for lunch or dinner.
Never been so despised and embarrassed in my life. I understand that the restaurant was very busy due to a festival, but employees should not take it to customers. We came to say rudely that they closed, then open, and then go upstairs, but not on the deck. When we are up, we are seen by several employees, but ignore them. We talked to us and say we could also go if no one will acknowledge us and that we already had a bad experience below. The bartender who hears us loud says they're busy and says sarcastically how she can help us. But we sat decided to go and tell the server we were all set because they were rude. The bartender began to scream before families trying to enjoy meals there. We were already gone and she provoked an argument to customers. The strange part is that the bartender said she was not an employee, but she works behind the bar.
I heard Phil's served dinner now. So, we have GLAD. Because of the weather it was not really busy, so we had the choice of seats. The food was great. Spinach and artichoke diving with homemade Pita chips, the best we ever had. Large fish and chips with sweet potatoes as a sub for regular fries. My friend, who is a Lasagna snob, ran over the veggie lasagna and she is not even vegetarian. Salad that came with food was fresh and plentiful and my Chowda was great. 4,00 dollars for a glass of wine, can not beat this, and in order to complete it we had vouchers from the local Valupak that comes in the mail. If I had my way, I would hear every night. My sister went on the weekend and had the Prime Rib with homemade popovers and still talks about it. Give them an attempt to eat, you will not be destroyed.
While this place has been a regular spot for my friends and I for the past year, this latest experience was the most horrifying to the point of us never going back there. It all started when some friends and I decided to go out for breakfast. It started out normally when we were seated, but then started going down hill when the waitress-Christine, allowed very little time for us to read over the menu. When we were finally ready to put in out order, she stood there eating her own breakfast, all the while standing there staring at us from 10 feet away. None of us derivated from the menu, only asking for in addition, a biscuit and a side order of bacon. When we received our food, the eggs on the eggs benedict were extremely over cooked, and the chorizo, cheeze and egg breakfast sandwich had no egg on it. When we mentioned this to the waitress, she mumbled under her breath, giving no apologies for the mistakes, and basically threw the new orders ar us... Upon leaving, we decided that the service was so bad that it did not warrant a tip, and we left. While crossing the street to our car, the watiress, Christine, followed us out and in the middle of the street, told us that we were exremely rude and obnoxious people, and that tips were required and that we were never to go back there again,as our business wasn't wanted. After being attacked so rudely in the middle of the street, we went back in to talk to the owner, and the waitress came back up to us and told us that we would have to work with her and that she deserved a tip because she wasn't the person who was making the food. When the owner said that he would comp the food, the waitress again started rudely berating us. I then told the owner about it, who said in a VERY intimidating/harrassing manner, that I was lucky he was even comping the food, and that it would be in the be our best interest to just stand there and be quiet. The food at this restaurant is not worth the harrassment from the staff, and I don't think the owner realizes that his behavior crossed the line...
