We were part of a large group and enjoyed a very friendly pub with a good atmosphere. The service was prompt and everyone was served together with hot food. The meal was excellent with plenty of food, and the dessert was lovely. The only downside was that the coffee was disappointing.
The pub recently changed ownership, and the new owners, George and Laura, have worked tirelessly to establish it as a top destination for quality food, ales, and wines. My wife and I had a fantastic meal here last Saturday night. The food was of great value and incredibly tasty. I started with homemade tomato soup and fresh farmhouse bread, while my wife had a prawn cocktail. For our mains, I enjoyed an individual beef ale pie and my wife had a generous portion of delicious fish chowder which even included four large prawns, all for just £12.95! We washed it all down with a pint of Jail Ale, a glass of Sauvignon, and a bottle of South African Shiraz, making for a wonderful evening in the cozy village pub atmosphere. The service from Laura and the new chef, Darren, was excellent. Come visit for yourself, but be sure to book ahead if you want to try their Sunday lunch.
Fantastic Christmas meal with the family thanks Laura, George , Angus and all the staff for a fabulous day
Under new management, the thorn is a nice pub, we went and had dinner, the roast beef and veg were really tasty, and the fish and chips was beautiful, using as much local produce as they can find. I even had my first taste of Dartmoor whisky. Well recommend for a stop off, outdoor seating to rear and a large play area for kids, booking for a table is a must.
