We stumbled upon a cafe with available seating indoors. Unfortunately, we were taken aback when the young girl took the order of customers who arrived after us before taking ours. Despite this, the real disappointment came when I tried to order a sausage roll and a can of coke, only to be told that I could only have house tea or coffee with the sausage roll. I was informed that I would need to order the sausage roll with either beans or coleslaw in order to be able to choose my desired drink. Since I dislike baked beans and coleslaw, and don't drink coffee, I simply wanted a cold beverage with my meal. I even offered to pay extra to have my choice of drink, but was told it was not possible. As a result, I decided to leave. It was a first for me to be restricted in choosing my drink in any cafe or restaurant I have visited. Overall, based on the food reviews and my experience, it seems like I may have dodged a bullet by not dining at this establishment.
We decided to visit this restaurant based on the advertised crab sandwiches, which were cheaper outside than inside. Despite the discrepancy, we chose to eat there because it seemed more down-to-earth than other places. I ordered the dressed crab salad, which was excellent. The pot of tea for two was served in a large pot, which we appreciated. My husband's "legendary pork bap" was a bit lacking in apple sauce and stuffing as promised, but overall we had a good experience with friendly service.
Located in Dartmouth near the sea, one would expect to find fresh fish and chips, but unfortunately, that was not the case at this restaurant. The chips were hard and undercooked, while the fish seemed to be poor quality and past its prime. Our Sunday afternoon experience was disappointing, and when we complained about the food, we were told that no refund or compensation would be given. Despite our children eating most of the meal, we were left unsatisfied. The staff insisted that the fish was fresh, but if that's fresh fish, it certainly didn't taste like it. Save your time and money and dine elsewhere, as this establishment deserves its low 2-star rating. We will never be returning.
Got off the Torquay to Dartmouth day cruise and had a little time to browse around before return journey, feeling peckish so went in and ordered a baked potato and a pot of tea, a tuna sandwich on white bread (it was served on brown but we said nothing until payment) and a milkshake £22.50. Nothing wrong with the service the girl was very pleasant and it was nice to eat in but looking round the rest of the town indicted to us we should have done just that before we sat down
Myself and my partner have unfortunately been into a cafe that pretends it’s a fish and chip shop. They call it Skippers in Dartmouth. I have food allergies so I asked the young girl what they use to cook the chips/ batter in. I asked if the potatoes were fresh. Yes I was told, turns out they were bought in as I could see two blue bags of chips one on the top of a fryer and one on the floor. They chips were absolutely tasteless but the fish was bearable but you had to put a lot of salt and vinegar on to eat it. There again no flavour whatsoever. The hygiene practices were quite questionable, one young girl wearing a mask to take your order but the young girl serving outside not wearing one. Also I saw something spilt on the floor and wiped up and the cloth put back on the side! Yuck!! They didn’t always use hand sanitizer, you could see they didn’t really care. The whole place has such a bad vibe, you feel drained in there. It has bad energy! The boss is totally ignorant, you can see how he is with the staff let alone customers. He doesn’t interact with you, just orders the poor young girls around, who look quite scared of him frankly. The guy who does the cooking was on a break when my partner and I were shown to a table. He is also ignorant, miserable looking like they are waiting to see the executioner,he said I can’t hear you when I was complaining and didn’t even move from the cooking area, there again ignorant! when we were paying I said actually I’m not happy as I did ask about the chips being freshly cut as I have allergies, he said if you want that you need to go next door, referring to a fish and chip shop that wasn’t open. He made a face and said we are a cafe! We paid half price as this was on the Eat out to help out deal but REALLY even Dick Turpin wore a mask! So if you’re in Dartmouth and you see SKIPPERS please just walk on by!
