Everyone said how delicious the meals were and they were good portions. Food was reasonably quick and service was good. Price was also reasonable. Keep up the good work! Happy customer!
I bought a cocobella coconut water , had one sip and found the taste weird. I checked the expiry date and guess what it's expiry from last 2 months. Shocking. Place needs to be shut down.
Does not even deserve a 1 Boss speaks to staff in a disgusting manner. I happened to be sitting outside steam cafe (thank god I didn't purchase anything from them) The boss was speaking to his female employee obviously about a negative situation that had occurred. The way he was speaking to her was terribly degrading I was going to say something but this man gave off such an intimidating vibe I didn't want to get involved. It seemed like this lady did not enjoy working here and his solution was for her to leave immediately and this was her fault not his. This went on for about an hour until he abruptly left after calling over another male staff member to have a go at her. By the end she was in tears because she had been fired in front of steam cafe customers, the public and her coworkers. Nobody deserves to be spoken to and be humiliated like that in public. I know I will never purchase anything from this cafe and if you are reading this review please do not support the way this man treats his employees. It was absolutely disgusting.
Steam Cafe - South Brisbane. Along the many eateries overlooking the river southern part of the river, there is a fair few choices to be made. More or less you are more going for the location than the food, and in certain parts there are a few fantastic choices for diner. At the end of the dining scene, many would say that it is the far end of the fine dining, where it becomes closer to fast food/food court style; they would not be incorrect. Which brings up to this place. While, of course it is not the best cafe around by a long or narrow stretch, it is not anywhere near as bad as the reception on here is making it out to be. With a wonderful view of the Brisbane River over some parkland and people watching, there is at least one decent aspect that it has going for it. Just because it is not as bad as the general reception says it is, it does not mean there are major issues with it. The biggest problem with it is the dining area to the side is filthy and could easily do with some attention and cleaning. One way to put it is that it is quite popular with the local bird life. If this was given due attention, then there might be a big improvement to the cafe as a whole. I was here meeting someone I had not seen for many, many years (take the age I was last time I saw her, and it had been even more years since). While there was an ulterior motive, mainly the point of the meeting was just to discuss and perhaps have a coffee and something to eat. For me, I got the usual double shot cappuccino. The coffee they make is made from beans sourced form Piazza D'Oro. As a general cup of coffee, it is decent. They at least know to to craft one. The cafe has a fairly stock standard menu of practically everything basic: breakfast, salads, burgers, meat and three, x and chips, sandwiches et al. All of it is pretty safe fare. The drinks menu is one of the most generous and extensive that I have ever seen. There is also a separate menu of specials, which are items not on the menu. A big trend towards chicken and "Chinese" meals is apparent. One of these was my lunch order. It was called "Chicken and Potato Hot Melt". This was a combination of potato wedges and fried chicken topped with a mixture of melted cheese, bacon and gravy. If that does not sound good to you, there is not any way to convince you otherwise; it is as it is - if you like that stuff, it is pretty good in a daring sort of way. It was okay. Though the selection of food was distinguishable, it was not the greatest in quality - a bit of a slap-up meal with little nutritional value. It was really hot and there was a good mixture of the food components - it had soft potato wedges and a tender lot of chicken bits, though the bacon could have been cooked a little more. One reviewer one another reviewing website put it quite well, that Steam Cafe is not a very special cafe. It is simply one that is placed there because of convenience. The opinion is that the thought is no-one can call it their favourite cafe or have much to say about it. That about sums it up, I reckon. A good meeting spot for an occasion, but certainly not material for a place to eat at. With improvements though, it can be way better.
