We came by this café on the suggestion of someone who thought Joe might be able to help us with a car problem. Joe's daughter, Martha, called her dad and he in turn called his son, Brent. Brent came by and had us follow him back to his shop where he very generously fixed our car the heat shield had come loose and was dragging on the ground...I thought I'd lost the whole underside of the car due to the horrible road conditions! . He refused payment and so we went back to the Café for breakfast to pay it forward. The eggs were cooked just right and there was delicious homemade toast. The Western was loaded with peppers, ham, onions mushrooms. The Café is off the Main Rd but seemed to have lots of local traffic. I would certainly recommend Joe's Country Café to anyone. On the return trip, a month later, we stopped and had lunch. The BLT was loaded with bacon and was one of the best we had.
If you weren't aware of its existence, you might pass right by this hidden gem. The staff were incredibly friendly. I enjoyed breakfast here three days in a row. The food was prepared exactly as I asked for and the prices were quite fair.
There are few places in the Codroy Valley where you can get home-cooked meals. One of them is Joe's Country Cafe adjacent to the Valley Service Station on Hwy. 406. We ate there on two occasions in August while staying in the valley. On both visits we found them to be friendly and happy to accommodate our requests. They cooked my dinner of fresh cod exactly as ordered ordered. It came with potatoes cooked to order, and vegetables. My husband had a tasty wrap. Joe's has a nice, clean, homey atmosphere with lots of light coming in the windows. A good place for breakfast, lunch, snacks, or dinner.
I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. I enjoy a cafe and gas station combination, but asking for tea with a side of diesel was a bit much. The suggestion of pumping it myself was not appealing. I will think twice before stopping at Joe's Cafe again. The salt was tasty though, so I'll give it two stars. xoxo
