A large but basic room with a sloping roof that may catch out the unwary. Poor WIFI available. Very good pool area. Well equipped common room with tea and coffee making available (fee applies to use their coffee . Pleasant, friendly and helpful owners. Language is a challenge if speaking only English. Excellent evening meal available served under group conditions (all guests that are dining in in the outdoor terrace. Meal was 3 course plus a small individual cheese platter. Complimentary wine also served. Very good meal with some ingredients served from owners garden. Owners have fresh baguette available if ordered the night before. (There are no shops in Sougraigne!
Locally sources ingredients make the home cooking here really great. Family team in the kitchen and dining room make for a good atmosphere, daily menu on the chalk board. Good range of well priced wines to accompany the food and a knowledgeable team to answer any questions.
We stayed in the gite attached to the auberge and dined there three times during our stay. We were amazed by the quality of food and the skill demonstrated by Nicole. Every course of every meal was just superb. We discovered just how good asparagus can be, now that was a surprise, but the lemon surprise that Nicole made for our final meal was just stunningly good. It is quite something to find such good, well cooked food, well presented, with a good choice of good wines, tucked away in this tiny little village! Thank you Nicole and Francoise, for three fabulous meals.
Our group of cycling enthusiasts stayed her in September 2012. Everything about our experience was fantastic (excepting perhaps the rain for a couple of days). The rooms were quirky but fantastic. Each in a delightful rabbit-warren cottage. The food was nothing short of magnificent. The location provided access to great cycling. and the entire experience was absolutely superb.
Well actually the food wine are a big part of heaven on earth. This place is a hidden jem. I can't say enough about Nicole's cooking Francois is quietly efficient accommodating. The rooms are lovely-beds are comfortable-from my window I could reach out pick a fig! I'd go back in a hearbeat....
