We decided to go to this restaurant due to excellent reviews on tripadvisor, but was very disapointed. The establisment itself is cozy and situated in central Ajaccio. Staff is friendly and helpfull, however only french-speaking. As menus also only came in french this became quite a problem as none of us understood much french..Only a few items on the menu (approx 5 starters, 5 mains and 5 desserts) usually indicates quality, but as stated - difficult as we didnt understand it. We had something reminding of cheese poppers (no taste however!) and a raw firsh-dish for starters. Both disapointing. For mains we tried several, including fish, chicken, veal and lamb. All meat-dishes was cooked nicely. Fish needed plenty of salt, Chicken was juicy but not very tasty, Veal was excellent prepared but lacked flavour, only the lamb dish was to our full satisfaction. Excellent cooked and very tasteful. The lack of vegetables, sauce ant potatoes accompanied the dishes was also very disapinting. Not at all worth the money.
Lovely garden restaurant tucked away in a picturesque Corsican mountain village. Superb menu, friendly staff and fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended
You are unlikely to come across A Merendella by chance- Soccia is a very picturesque village possibly best known to visitors as the starting point for the walk to Lac Creno. The village ( and the drive there and out) and A Merendella will be ample reward for the effort. The restaurant is set in a very attractive shady garden with beautiful views both onto the amazing scenery but also onto the garden, and you will see tomatoes and aubergines, peaches and herbs, being picked to order by the chef before and possibly during your meal. There is no written menu, you will be talked through the 4 or 5 choices each of entree, main, cheese and dessert, in mouth-watering detail - the pricing is simply done on 2,3 or 4 plate combo.Every dish we had was delicious, fresh produce, perfectly cooked with imaginative and perfectly balanced accompaniments. Despite the remote location, it was full on the evening we went, so far as we could tell, mainly Corsicans- which added to the relaxed but lively ambience. The young couple who run it are delightful. They are open for lunch and dinner- they do have pretty much a single, fairly fixed sitting for both, so do phone first. We highly recommend it if you are anywhere near.
