La Joya Fresh Mexican - SIMSBURY

If you enjoy spicy dishes, this restaurant is perfect for you. However, in terms of overall flavor, the food was average.

I have visited this restaurant many times in the past, but I will not be returning. While the restaurant has a nice appearance, the quality and freshness of the food have declined. The so-called "fresh Mexican" cuisine is not up to par, with Taco Bell having fresher options. I heard that they hired a new head chef, but based on the recent food quality, it seems like he is not skilled in his job. The owners of the restaurant have questionable values and seem to be lacking in business acumen. I have also heard rumors that they dismiss employees without notice, particularly those with families. If they continue to operate in this manner, La Joya may not be around for much longer. I had to make some edits to my review in order to repost it, as it seems the owner cannot handle criticism.

I had high expectations for this restaurant, but they were quickly dashed as soon as I walked through the door. The decor was cute, but the restaurant was tiny and there was trash scattered on the floor. I was shocked to see an employee kick a napkin across the small space as if it were a soccer field. The staff was not very friendly, with no smiles from any of them and our server seemed to be absent-minded and physically absent. Our order was incorrect and it took 25 minutes for our appetizers to arrive, which came before our drinks that were left sitting at the bar while our server chatted with coworkers. Even if we had received our drinks promptly, they would not have been enjoyable due to their poor quality. The kitchen was also a disappointment, with crude and disgusting behavior that was the final straw for me never wanting to return to this place. If you enjoy mediocre food, bad fish, and unprofessional staff and management, then this might be the place for you.

Such a cute little place! Food is amazing and the staff there are so nice and welcoming! My husband and I aren’t in CT too often but when we are we do make a point to stop in for dinner.
