I asked if I could I have a quick glass of wine and look at their wines (I buy by the case), and a rude male person said No, because of a private event (that had not even started). I unsuccesfully tried to explain that I would be very quick. I was offered the (overheated) patio... I had a mediocre Sauvignon Blanc and left without leaving a tip, which I had not done in years. I went there a couple of times during covid but will never go back.
The atmosphere here is nice! Although located in a parking lot, the patio still felt warm and inviting. We orders the Metro and Garden Party flights, and enjoyed them all. The board are a bit overpriced for the amount you receive, although I did enjoy the cheese selections. Would come again and skip the board.
We each got a metro flight of 5 wines. If you tend to like a little bit of a sweeter wine this is the flight for you. We loved all 5 of our samples which is pretty rare for us! We also got a build your own charcuterie board. We both felt this was a bit overpriced for the small amount of food you got on it. However, the cheeses we got were very tasty. As with most of the world it seems everyone is still short staffed and they were struggling with this the day we visited, but everyone we encountered on staff was friendly and helpful. Overall it is a very pleasant place to visit and I would recommend it!
A terrific tucked away oasis in Silver Spring. I was immediately struck by the easy parking and inviting outdoor seating when I arrived near closing time. The outdoor seating has marvelous lighting, and due to its location it was surprisingly quiet. A large table of people were winding down outside and seemed to be in lively conversation. I headed for the bar. That turned out to be a fortuitous choice. Since I arrived so late on a weeknight, I was just fortunate enough to meet the industrious and warm owners. They had the openness and care to talk about the business and their experiences and over a glass of their outstanding Tannat I learned a little about how wine is in their blood. Her father, a grower of fruit, had in him the craft of winemaking and some of his last barrels (now converted) hang at the entry as incredible lights. And he had spent a great deal of time living in Southern France. This duo is impressive. They are organized, thoughtful, and welcoming. The space is open and feels like a place you could plan a large event. It's well decorated and again the lighting is terrific. They built everything themselves and it's hard not to notice the craftsmanship as you rest your hands on the bar they lovingly built.I understand they host music too. Jazz and Reggae nights are happening soon!Oh! The wine. He asked me white or red and bold or subtle. I said red bold and got the Tannat. It was an extraordinary wine. I have been to many regional wineries throughout Virginia and other areas. I found the Tannat I got to be balanced and a delight and several steps above the rest. A very good value. What a place. I congratulate Urban Winery on their success and thank them for giving this gift to the community.
We just hosted a party at the Urban Winery for my son and his wife. We invited about 40 people, and had a great space which allowed everyone to mix comfortably, sit, and visit with friends. The food, wine, and service were terrific we worked closely with Georgia and Damon to put together a set of appetizers that were a big hit. Of course, the wine was great and they also picked up some beer from one of the nearby microbreweries for our non wine loving guests. We enthusiastically recommend the Urban Winery to anyone planning a party.
