We stayed in Silver Plume last summer, and even though breakfast was offered at our b&b, we showed up at the Tea Room whenever they were open! My husband is in love with their buttermilk pecan pie, and I thought everything was tasty! We did schedule an afternoon tea, and it was lovely. This summer, we will be coming out from VA again, and hope to catch them open!
I've never been to a tea room with more character and delicious food. We were lucky enough to be there on a day when they were serving Pasties. I love Pasties, my first was in the UP of Michigan and it's been a few years so you can imagine my excitement to find somewhere making them locally. If you are unfamiliar miners used to carry Pasties to work with them. If you visit Silver Plume for no other reason definitely stop in to check this place out. I only wish there was more antiques to look at, but having them in the basement was really cool none the less.
I came up here looking at the new bar but everyone is talking about. It wasn't open until four, so I stopped in at this teahouse. It used to be an antique store started in the 50s, prior to that was a saloon. Sarah, took over the antique store from her mother, and she and her husband turned into a teahouse 16 years ago. Silverplume is a tiny tiny town, the train runs through it, most of the buildings are abandoned. It's right off the highway after you passed Georgetown on your way up to the mountains. The roads our dirt. There was all jazz music playing in the tea room. And still many antiques around. I was the only customer when I walked in, but was shortly after joined by Don, an older man comes every Saturday for pancakes. I had English breakfast tea and scone and a side of bacon. The bacon was overcooked, but the tea was excellent, and the homemade scones was delightful. As I was walking in, to women were walking out and told me that everything on the breakfast menu is delicious. I simply wasn't very hungry. I stayed for a few hours sipping on my tea, working on a blog post, and reading. Intermittently talking with the owner, the other sweet lady who works there, and an assortment of guests. The decor is outdated, but it's an antique store! The staff couldn't be better. This is a little treasure of a place, and I'll be back.
We came to Silver Plume on a whim, to see where Bread and Dram was. Most sites I visited described this city as a ghost town, so I didn't expect to see much life there, but we got out to explore. Our first stop and closest to where we parked was the Silver Plume Tea Room. It's an old establishment that has been with the same family for 2-3 generations. There are antiques, but what caught our eye were the antique tea sets then the breads and desserts. Then the friendly greeting caught out attention. We started chatting with the owner and her friends and decided to stay. It was a good decision. We chatted some more, enjoyed our tea, had some second breakfast, and even got to see a pretty cool house.
