Lilah's Bakery - Shreveport

They offer good quality king cakes. Best to enjoy right away, they don’t have a great shelf life. This is one of two bakeries I make a trip from Houston to get a cake.

The King Cake is always delicious. However, shipping is extremely expensive, around $25 to ship 70 miles. They did a great job packing the cake, and I was surprised at how well the integrity of the cake was maintained during shipping. I did not mind paying so much for the shipping since I wanted to try the flavor of the week, Indecision, and due to an injury I cannot drive right now. I drove from Tyler, TX to buy two king cakes from here because they were voted the best. We were going to enjoy one with friends on Saturday. Wow, how did they get voted best. I was very disappointed. The cake was very dry, the icing broke off in pieces not fresh and it was wrapped in plastic maybe because it was days old . We were so embarrassed that we tossed the second in the trash and cancelled the king cake visit.

I was in a tour group from Oklahoma and we spent a morning touring Lilahs and making a little King Cake. I really got hooked! These cakes are wonderful!! So fresh is the “cake” and fresh sweet fillings! I’ve had other King Cakes during our visit but this bakery makes the best cakes by far! I will have to have more! I’m hooked!

I hate doing bad reviews on anyone. However, I was visiting my sister and got an Italian Cream King Cake. The cake was mostly bread and the bread was hard. I spent $32 on a king cake that was disappointing at best, but down the street at Rouse’s, I got one for $10, the same size, and delicious. We threw out the king cake. I guess a fresh king cake from this place is amazing, but that’s definitely not what I got.
