Benji's Deli - Shorewood

Good local joint. Decent food and worth the trip If you are local.

I like going here to eat and quietly listen to everyone's conversation. So

1st visit to Benji's in many years. Used to love Benji's. Not unlike Brooklyn or Philadelphia corned beef: thick cut, some fat and a lot of flavor, just with rye bread with carraway. Plain. No sauerkraut, no cheese, no mustard.So I ordered a plain Corned beef with kosher dill pickle, no mustard or anything else. My last visit must have been in the old times when real (Miller's german rye with carraway , and the corned beef tasted of tangy spices (garlic, cloves, peppercorn, Bay leave, mustard seed, rosemary and love! .It was disappointing in its taste, fragrance, appearance. Compared to House of Corned Beef, on Silver Spring, it was not in the running.

The food is not what it used to be. The meat, from what I could tell, was bought from a grocery store deli.
