Apart from some interesting artworks on the walls and the fact that it is on a flight site, it feels a bit sterile. not a playground, but a great place to make children get out and land planes, nothing big, though almost all small, light aircraft.
I love this place, a bit lost in time. But that makes it great
All nice new paint and a few of more modern tables and chairs but the cafe is the most basic it can be at the moment. I was there today Tuesday and there was a choice of a pre-made cheese or ham sandwich so a total of 2 or 3 big rolls of bacon, sausage or bacon and sausage in foil and keeping warm in a warming draw. Usual choc snacks or crisps, tins and bottles but certainly not even a cook with a microwave and toaster for beans on toast. We shared the bacon sausage roll as it was fat and about a foot long and perfectly nice for what it was. Had a nice mug of tea as only instant coffee available. It was all fine for what it currently is VERY BASIC but it will not attract local outsiders to watch aircraft with no effort being put in. My guess and that is all it is, they can 't do a deal with a good local as a franchise run your own cafe like other airports such as Welshppol, Elstree, Booker, Dunkeswell, Old Buckingham just to name a few. It can be done well when its run by the right mindset.
Despite the website and Facebook page indicating that the bar had reopened with daily hours from 9am to 4pm, when we arrived at 11:30am today, we found the main door locked and the bar in darkness. We will not return until we can confirm that it is indeed open.
Doesn't look like it's ever going to open again!! Come on, give us some info please!! Been several times with no luck.
